Cardiology Appointment

I am going to a cardiologist today to get a stress test and whatever else to help me know that my heart is good. I was wondering if anyone here who has seen a cardiologist before could assure me that the tests won't be painful?

Don't know if I caught you before you went for your test, but I just had a stress test a few weeks ago and, no, it is not painful.

For some stress tests (nuclear), they give you an injection, but it has no side effects, no reactions, so if it is this type of stress test, then this may be the only uncomfortable part if you don't like needles.

But, what I always tell myself is that getting the test and finding out the results is more important that any anxiety I may feel about it. You will get through it just fine.

I have had stress tests, heart monitors and echos and none are painful. Try not to worry so much (easier said then done, I know!) and let us know how it goes. You're going to be just fine!

Hello...I was there in Sept last year for the whole stress test thing...overnight stay in the hospital and it was fine...no pain. I was more worried about the hospital stay. I haven't been in the hospital since I had my son in 1989. All my tests were negative...my doctor said he thought it was anxiety. I think you might feel better when you are done with the testing. Ciao

Hey all,

Thank you for the pep-talk. The appt. was great!!! I feel that this was a necessary step in my healing process. It was cool seeing the heart on the echocardiogram. The Dr. didn't seem to concerned with my heart, but i'll find out in a few weeks, I think.

Glad to hear the appt was great

. I can totally relate. I have had fear of heart attacks and chest pains on and off for the past two years. I have been to the ER and cardiologist numerous times (including a cardioloigst visit three weeks ago) and all tests: blood, EKG, stress test, echo, nuclear stress test--everything has been normal.

I am truly happy for you!!

Hey all,

I just got the results of my tests today.

They said that I had some abnormal readings on my treadmill test and want me to come in to get a "stress echocardiogram" to rule out any "false-positives." In regards to the review of my ventricles, and the parts of the heart, the doctor said that everything is fine.

But of course, now i'm a bit nervous again that I may have a problem. But again...if the only test that raised a flag was the treadmill, and the echocardiogram and EKG weren't mentioned, should I really be concerned?

Good morning y'all,

I really need help from anyone who might know more about abnormal treadmill readings; as far as if I should really worry about this? The nurse didn't seem to think anything was wrong and just wants me to take more tests to rule out any problems. I know i'm being redundant, but this website has been a godsend in my journey in the battle against anxiety!

Hey there - I just had the same thing - abnormal stress test and they said the stress test could be wrong. I have to go for an angiogram though, which is more invasive (an inpatient procedure at the hospital) to rule out the false-positive, so honestly, if all you have to do is a stress echocardiogram, just do it and then you will know for sure. It is a very easy test and you will do great with it - it's basically just an ultrasound of your heart while doing the stress test, but they can really look at your heart better.

I hear false-positives are common and believe me, if they thought it anything serious they would have had you in that day to do the test. They just have to rule things out - it's common procedure.
