I don't think a person actually needs anykind of lab test to determine a depressed state.
Never heard of one.
Depression is usually diagnosed by your symptoms.
It is not a mental disease necessarily.
However , it is more like a state of mind,
rather than physical.
However , it can and will cause physical symptoms.
But usually a doctor will run tests to rule out any other problems. And there could be
some underlying health problems .
When I was so depressed I would go in to see the doctor with various complaints. As depression will cause you to feel bad all over.
My doctors didn't
do tests to determine
if I was depressed. If they couldn't find any physical reason for me to feel so bad, then they knew that I was probably suffering from depression or anxiety.
