How many times a day do you have heart palpitations or the feeling of fluttering in your chest? Mine seem to be on a daily basis now and they are scaring the heck out of me. The skipped beats I can almost handle but the fluttering feeling terrifies me. I am afraid I will go into A-Fib and die. I have had all the workups done and everything came back great. I am just afraid that since they have increased I will just drop dead from them. Can anyone help with this.............Thank you so much, Pam

Hi medgrl,
I have had the skipped beat & fluttering for almost 15 years. I have worn a heart monitor twice & both times the Dr said it was normal to have this happen. It’s just that some of us can feel it in our chest & I’m also lucky enough that I can hear my heart beat in my head lol. I found out that when I over eat, take in caffeine, or take decongestions it will make my heart flutter. Also when I worry (high anxiety) about things I notice my heart flutters also. It always worried me that it would stop beating but the Dr. has assured me that it won’t & I guess he is right because it’s still beating. Try to keep track of the foods, caffeine intake, & medications you take. Does your fluttering come at a certain time after taking meds or after eating & so on? Try not to worry your heart is fine easier said than done, right? If your still worried talk to your Dr. & have him explain to you why or what causes it to flutter but I’m pretty sure he will tell you some what the same thing I did. But talking to him may ease your mind a little.
Take Care,

triple"L", Thank you for responding. Yes I have noticed when I have indigestion that I get fluttering a lot more.I try to watch what I eat but that does not always help me out. I can be very relaxed and calm and then out of the blue my heart will flutter. My doc says that I fine but this keeps me confined to my home all the time because I don't want to have a heart attack in my car. I also live very close to a fire station!! Thank you again.......Pam

Oh boy...this happens to me several times a day! I have found that if I am sedentary, I notice it a lot more. If I am active and doing things, seems I never notice it! What does that tell you? It was happening the other day when I went to the ER, and EKG was fine...haven't had a Holter in about 4 years or so. But, it scares the BAJEEBAS out of me EVERY TIME IT HAPPENS! Then, I immediately feel for my pulse and there isn't one, LOL...and then, heart JUMPS back into action! Very worrisome...I can relate, TOTALLY!

My heart will flutter when I’m calm also but it does it more when my anxiety is a little high. Like I said it’s been doing it for about 15 years & its still going like the energizer bunny. I read on the internet that hormonal changes can make your heart flutter. My heart will flutter a little everyday. It used to scare the heck out of me & that only made it flutter more. It’s kind of like my headaches. I get a headache of some sort everyday & have for most of my adult life. I used to worry that it was a brain tumor but as long as I have had headaches it should have gotten worse but they haven’t. So all I’m saying is we are both OK, both have been checked out by a Dr. & if you can’t trust your Dr. who can you trust? They know more about these things than we do. If you stay home all the time that’s not a good thing either. It just gives you more time to worry about things.
Take good care of yourself, :)

Hi,

Has it been a while since the heart fluttering was checked out. Not to cause you anxiety, but if it's been a while I would have it checked out to be on the safe side. A-Fib can happen at rest and on the move, you just feel it more at rest. My mom has A-Fib. If you were recently checked, I'm sure it's fine. But if it has been a few years a check up wouldn't hurt.

Beepster, your post is enough to cause anxiety, LOL! Thanks, now I am in a panic...LOL!! I haven't had a Holter in about 4 years... but, had an EKG last week and all was fine!

Sometimes, coming to this forum just causes me MORE anxiety!

I have had palpitaions off and on for several years. I have Mitral Valve Prolapse, and when I have these palpitations, I end up in the emergency room. I have had several tests done and the Md. says the are PVC's and quite common. They are very scarey, andI get anxious when I have them, which makes me have them even more. I am on a King of Hearts monitor now for a week, so the doc can see if anything else is going on. I pray that I can have a different response, and hope this program will help me......sounds like a lot of us have the heart palpitations..Take Care everyone.

Thank you everyone for all of your replies. I had my last workup: EKG,holter, echo, stress test, in September 2008. They said all was fine and not to worry. The heart fluttering though, that is very scary! I just don't want to get worse and end up on meds. My doctor told me that as I get older they will get better, I have heard others say that they will get worse. Thank you again everyone, you are all always very supportive.........Pam
