I take .25mg of xanax when I have an attack. Now my doctor won't always refill it, she said its addicting. I only get it when I really need it. So I try not to take it. But when I do, the next day I have another attack. And if I take the xanax...I will have another attack the next day. It's like a cycle. If I break that cycle, I won't get an anxiety attack. Can the Xanax be causing this to happen??

I don't think the Xanax is "causing" the attacks per se, so much as once the drug is out of your system your baseline anxiety comes back and since you're prone to panic, you do. I, too, take a tranquilizer from time to time, but I've also worked with my therapist to learn how to control my anxiety and panic through breathing and meditation. You may want to seek out a doctor who can help you learn those skills, so you're less dependent on the med.

How many times in a week do you take the .25 mg?

What struck me was the thought that it was anticapatory anxiety. That happened to me in 07 when I had a prescription for Klonopin. As I got to my last few doses, I would get anxious about not having it anymore. I remember when I took the last dose, thinking "Now what?!". Taking the med seemed to make me more anxious then the original problem because of how I thought about it. In the end, I got through it fine...

Like a safe person...safe place...safe pill...it's all an illusion. You're your safe person and you may find in the end that you don't need a pill to feel ok.
