Hi Blue.
I go out but with great difficulty. When I walk outside I get dizzy and I can't cross any wide streets at the intersection because I'm afraid if I get dizzy there's nothing to grab on to. I know it makes no sense but as soon as I get to the corner I panic. I have always gotten a little dizzy outside but last summer in the heat and humidity I had serious sinus and ear problems. I was dizzy everyday. Since then I am afraid to cross streets. I can tell the difference between anxiety dizzy and ear dizzy but I'm still afraid. Today I tried, I stood at the corner of a four lane street, lunch time, tons of people walking around, and I just stood there and started to feel the panic and chickened out. I'm embarrassed to ask strangers to hold my hand!

I have experienced it on and off for 63 years starting when I was 12. There were many years I had no problem, and in fact I was a gold frequent flyer during my career. I retired in 2000 and was fine. Three years ago it started again, I think because of boredom, and I went from taking 7 day cruises, cross country drives etc. to being nervous about going into Ocala, about 20 miles away if my wife isn't with me.I am resistant to valium etc. as I have taken the drug since the 70s and even 50mg doesn't help much if I have to go outside my comfort zone of about 5 miles.I', not sure when agorophobia becomes a panic attack, but I don't have those, just feel very uneasy and the "gotta get out of here" feeling. I was disssaponted to hear on Disc1 that this was not going to be a major discussion topic, so I may send it all back during the free trial. How do you feel about that??
Cheers
Stu

Hello,

I have that too. I do wish it was discussed a little more in the program. I think there are things in the program that help with it too. I now get that "got to get out of there" feeling, when it's someplace I have to be. Really limits my life.

For those who want to hear how bad my agoraphobia was and (everything else) in the beginning, go back and read under "Still can't Drive" for my post on February 4th. I really didn't think I was going to survive but "very slowly" I am getting better, just not as good as I would like. Praying for all of you each day. Can't understand how so many of us have gotten in this condition. Never dreamed I would be where I have been but believing God will get us to a better place again and be able to enjoy life once again. It has been the hardest struggle I have been through. Keep on trying! God Bless you all.
