I'm curious if anyone knows if anxiety can actually make people black out? I recently got a new doctor and was explaining to him about something that happened 11 years ago. I told him i had an aura in my eyesight..my head got a pain....i had just made it to the office door in my school (i was in 10th grade) when i grabbed the side of the door and my friend was with me...last thing i remember is seeing her in front of me asking me if i was ok....i looked down at my feet and i remember thinking "oh my god i'm dying". I remember nothing after this...everything went black. When I came out of it after about 2 minutes I was in a cold sweat and my homeroom teacher and secretary were there as well...they asked if i was okay and all i did was shake my head no. I felt a pulsation and a tingling in my hands.....i asked my friend to feel my hand and she could feel the pulsating feeling too...she also told me i had been "convulsing" not the violent kind you will usually see with a seizure but like if someone was mildly whipping my body like a whip...not sure how to explain it...like a slow moving back and forth like someone getting sick or something but without the wretching? I dunno how to describe it....i've never had anything like this since but i've always been scared i had a "minor" seizure of some kind. I never got any tests done at the time besides just my blood pressure. I was very scared of needles back then..but my doctor thought back then i could be mildly anemic....but later on when i had blood tests nothing of the sort was there. This new doctor thinks it was a panic attack.......i don't recall EVER having anything before or since that..it certainly doesn't sound like a normal panic attack...any thoughts?
I'd possibly not worry at all about it only for the fact i'm on clonazepam and thats also used for epileptics anyhow..and that was since grade 12....two years after this incident. I have also had the tendancy to space out a lot but I dunno if thats just a random thing or not. But I thought to say it was a panic attack was kind of weird...does anyone see auras over their eyesight with panic attacks? I know it was 11 years ago but I guess I just want to know my history health wise and this new doctor wrote it off.....what do you all think of what I described? Does it sound like more than a panic attack?
Doctor said Anxiety caused me to black out?
I can't say it sounds familiar to me, but that doesn't mean it isn't possible. Actually passing out with a panic attack is fairly rare. I'm certainly not a medical professional, but the things I've heard associated with auras are migraine headaches and epileptic seizures. I would talk more with your doctor or seek a second opinion just to ease your mind. You're probably perfectly healthy, but it doesn't hurt to confirm it.
