Children & anxiety
Children & anxiety
I am currently working through the program (on week 5) and doing lots better! Now that I am learning more about anxiety and depression and the fact that it runs in families, I am really concerned about my 9 year old nephew. He has been on meds for ADHD for a couple of years and they don't really help. He has developed tics and I actually witnessed him on two incidents having panic attacks. He lives with my mom (his grandmother) because my sister had severe alcohol and drug problems and was not ready to be a mom. I have pointed out to my mom all of my concerns and reassured her that I know she is doing her best to give him a normal, stable life. She agrees with what I have noticed but does not do anything to help him other than the meds. I really am concerned about how is going to continue to affect him and hate that he is living with this. Is there any sort of program that Stress center has or can recommend for young children? I am really at a loss but want to help. Thanks!
Re: Children & anxiety
Hello-
There is a doctor who wrote a book about this whole thing, called "Freedom from Fear" by Dr. Howard Leibgold. His website is www.angelnet.com . I believe they have stuff for kids and adults.
I was referred to this book by a lady who used to post on this site. She actually lives in CA and gets to go to a support group run by this doctor and his wife. It is FAB! Teaches similiar things to StressCenter.com, but it clicked better for me.
Thanks for caring for your nephew. That is huge for him.
