Panic Attacks Due To The Weather

Post by WillDestini » Thu Jun 30, 2011 4:50 pm

I don't know if it is possible to know what causes your panic attacks but I know that the worst of the attacks come from Thunderstorms. I have had a fear of storms all my life but for the past 3 years I can't not cope with them. I am a mess three days before they come and I watch the weather all the time. I was hoping that someone else feels this way and has any suggestions. I know with going through the first session that it is not the storm that is causing my attacks but they don't help. I am a BIG!!!! "What if" Thinker I can't even go on vacation like the beach forget it. I just wondered if anyone else has this problem and has any idea's on how to feel better and how to handle this fear I have. Thank's God Bless :(

There must be many people that have this because i know in my workbook (which is an old version) "Thunderstorms" is listed in the list of fears. So evidently it is a common fear. stay strong, We are all here for you!

Hi, I know how you feel. I also have a phobia about thunderstorms that I inherited from my late mother along with anxiety & panic disorder. Its gotten better over the last few years since I went on ativan as needed.I still wont stay in bed if it storms too bad.I try to stay away from windows and have tv or air conditioning on to drown it out. I too obscess about the weather. The 1st thing upon waking up I turn on the local weather forecast. I hate summer and count the days to fall & winter.I keep a flashlight handy at all times too.Try not to worry so far ahead as weather patterns can change. Also it helps if your not alone or just call someone.Ive called friends already at midnite and they were very supportive. Each time you get thru it the next time is easier it will just suck more than scare you. Sometimes I would knock on neighbors doors too & tell them I was scared.Living in an apt. complex I didnt have to go outside.I dont do this anymore since Im not as scared. So find a way to block it out maybe headphones and it will get easier. Hang in there youll be OK!
