Hello All...

I read in a previous thread that tingling/numbness sensation can be considered a symptom of anxiety.

My left arm and leg at times gives me a tingling sensation (seems to get worse when I think about it). A couple weeks back I was at the ER for sinus pain/migraines... All of my blood work came back normal and so did my CAT scan. Also, my vital signs and reflexes were normal. I have followed-up with my MD and he doesn't feel that I have a sinus infection anymore (if I had one at all).

I finished a 10 day round of antibiotics and 6 days worth of prednisone. I'm still using Fluticasone nasal spray daily. I'm still not feeling 100% better and I have an appointment scheduled with an ENT in a couple weeks. The headaches are gone but the sinus pressure comes and goes. When I go to blow my nose nothing is there.

I am going through a great deal of stress right now and looking for a new job opportunity. I woke up this morning and the side of my neck was tense and ached. The same side where the tingling sensation in the leg and arm sporatically happen.

I worry that maybe something is seriously wrong with me like cancer or that I have the beginning stages of a serious disease.

I am going to pull out my the program program and start listening to my tapes again. I'm also very lonely and living in a town about an hour away from home.

Thank you.
JOHN

Hey,

Not to alarm you ,but if someone has numbness and tingling on one side including same side arm and leg you always want to rule out stroke if it's not because of sleeping on one side,if it continues tho, call your MD ASAP,most likely nothing if speech and other things are not effected.Don't worry about feeling 100% yet the fluid in the ear usually takes weeks if not a month to go down, sinus inflammation has to return back to normal as well.

Best to you !

Hi Sit-N-Spin.

I don't believe I had a stroke. My vision and movements are perfectly fine.

When my MD looked in my ears and nose last week he said that everything looked fine. My symptoms qualified me to get on antibiotics for a sinus infection but part of me isn't sure that I truly had one.
I am seeing an ENT in a couple weeks for a follow-up or hopefully sooner. I don't know why I still am getting this sinus pressure that comes & goes on one side and even makes my ear and teeth (on the same side) experience a dull ache. Also, I'm experiencing muscle spasms on the side of my head... not all the time but they come & go.

Perhaps my stress/anxiety level is so bad right now that I am experiencing new symptoms that I never experienced before. Growing up with anxiety it was always the a) sick to my stomach b) nervous c) dizzy type of symptoms.

I really don't know what else to do until I see the ENT. I have been to the hospital for a CAT scan and had blood work done.

You may be clenching your teeth or grinding your teeth and if you are stressed, your shoulders are probably up around your ears.

I would doubt it's cancer, etc. It sounds like a lot of clenching everything to me and loneliness to boot. good luck with your job search. Can you keep a journal of the progress that you make each day so that you can remind yourself of how far you have come? And get some exercise so that you sleep well?

I'm sorry you are having a hard time.

Thank you Sit-N-Spin and Newrunner.

I saw an ENT today and he said that my headaches are not caused by my sinuses. He said my CAT scan of the head and sinuses were normal. No sinus infection either. Also, the audiologist checked my hearing which was perfect and there was no build up of pressure in the ears either. He suggested that I continue using Flonase (2 puffs, once a day) for another week and to see a Neurologist if the headaches persist.

I am going to see a Neurologist because I am getting headaches daily and from everything that I've heard and read it feels like a migraine. They come & go and and are quite painful (usually affecting one side of the head and sinus area).

I'm concerned about the tingling sensation that I've been experiencing after the headaches. Earlier tonight I woke up with the tingling sensation in some of my fingers and toes. Now, I've read that a tingling sensation can be caused from a migraine as well as from anxiety attacks. Also, it can be a sign of multiple sclerosis. I am rather concerned of what is going on with me.

If anyone has experience of migraines and tingling sensations please respond. Support is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Omg..i know these feelings!! I am sixteen an experianced my first full blown panic attack in nov. Talk about being scared half to death i felt like i was dying. but anyways the headaches and tingling/numbness thing..i was going to go to church the other day for the first time in awhile. I got up to get ready and my index finger was tingling well the more attention i gave it the worse it got. This soon lead to worry and heart palpitations. well i was of course thinking about this all day. I came home later that evening and laid down for a nap. I woke up to my left leg being numb=/

I know exactly what you mean! I have that tingly numbing sensation in my right arm and leg too sometimes! I attribute mine to anxiety! Whenever I get nervous or anxious it appears! Then when i forget about it or am just in a relaxed situation it is not there! If it comes and goes chances are it is not a real physical ailment! Most likely is just the anxiety! Alway get a professional opinion first so that you will have a clear mind! Good luck!

I'll start with the caveat that I'm not a doctor and am only sharing what I've read and been told by my doctors.

The numbness and tingling sensations definitely can be caused by anxiety. It's actually easy to understand why. As you know, an anxiety attack is really just our normal self protection mechanism (fight or flight) going into overdrive at the wrong time. During that process, our bodies are making an amazing amount of internal adjustments all designed to keep us alive.

In the case of numbness, the cause is a change in blood flow throughout the body. Because our bodies think we are in danger, the panic response causes blood to be diverted from certain areas, which include the extremities, to the major muscle groups in our arms and legs. This makes us better able to physically defend ourselves or run away. The result we see during a panic attack is numbness and tingling in our hands, feet, and even face. I've had panic attacks where I could hardly feel my hands and this was while driving a motorcycle! Not cool.

Ever wonder why you feel nausea during a panic attack? Again it's the fight or flight response. Digestion stops so that blood can be moved again to the major muscle groups. Also, our stomach wants to empty itself to again stop digestion and focus the body on self preservation.

What about when things seem brighter or noises seem louder? During panic our senses are heightened so that we can respond to danger more quickly. Specifically with our eyes, our irises dilate to let in more light making everything appear brighter.

Pretty much everything we experience physically during panic is related to a physiological change due to the panic response. If we could stop look from the outside as an observer and see all the incredible things our bodies to do keep us safe, it's actually quite impressive. But on the inside, it feels awful!

Thank You
