For the past week I've been feeling really strange. My home feels very unfamiliar to me and so does my neighborhood when I'm outside or just looking out the window. It almost feels like everything is turned around. I was outside earlier and looked over at my neighbors house and the back of their home seemed like the front. When I decided to go inside my house I went through the front door and it felt like it should be on the opposite side of the porch and when I entered it felt like someone elses home. Lately my sense of direction has felt really off also. I'll go into a room and walk out and it's almost as if when I was in that room the whole thing got turned around. I'm not really getting dizzy, but I get a sense of dizziness. Like I expect at any moment for everything to start spinning. I'm afraid to drive because my senses feel so off that I'm worried I'll get lost. I have been full of anxiety this past month that I have no appetite, lots of body symptoms and now this. I got so panicked about this feeling the other day I went to the emergency room because I'm sure I'm in the early stages of dementia. The doctor took a history and did some blood work, an ekg and ct scan of my head. Nothing came back abnormal. He said my symptoms don't point to anything specific and feels it's my anxiety causing it. I feel so unsettled because it felt like he just didn't know what else to say. Can anxiety truly be causing this? Is it some kind of derealization or am I really starting to lose my mind. I'm afraid I'll wake up one of these days and totally not know where I am or who I am. Even as I write this words look strange to me. I'm only 31 but feel like I'm 90! Looking for some reassurance or anyone who has felt like me. Please help.

Hmm it sounds somewhat like derealization. I think i have maybe felt that way in short spirts perhaps where i would write stuff down and then i would look at it and it didn't look right when it really was. I would call that more bewilderment and confusion but with derealization involved as well. I would get a second opinion from another doctor.

For me when I don't know something i try to find books on the subject and do some research. I would suggest checking out books by Hans Selye...he is one of the big guys who actually descovered the physiological response of stress on the body.

I know for sure that when we have the stress response on a very frequent basis it will focus a large ammount of blood to the muscles we need to fight or flee and then there isn't as much blood to nourish our organs.

With the brain if there is less blood then we may see symptoms of confusion, lack of memory, slow word recall, lack of concentration, bewilderment, unreality.

with the inner ear we get symptoms of dizziness and loss of equilibrium.

Hmm i wish i could help you more on that one but i'm not sure what else to tell you. The best thing you can do is research about the physiology of stress. Even working on calming yourself down is going to help your body heal from any disease.

Kelly, I'm no expert, but I know anxiety can do a lot. I think it's good that everything came back normal. Do you have Lucinda's cd's?

Let's keep in touch!
