Hi, Joe,
This is Denise. I saw this report on TV the other day and it actually made me feel better about things. I have hit bottom lately. I am 48 and have been down for about 3 yrs. I assumed that some of it is just the midlife crisis thing of questioning your life choices and accomplishments, etc.

But also, I find life at this stage very difficult. I am sandwiched between 2 kids out in the world trying to make it and an elderly sick mother, who I worry about all the time. As a Mom, I have given so much time and love to my kids and now they are grown and don't need me as much. I am trying to get a grip on my anxiety for their sakes as much as mine. As they have flown the coop, I have freaked out a time or two, Especially with my 19 yr old daughter. She spent the summer in Scotland by herself this past year. So my anxiety level was at an all time high.

Anyway, back to this news story. It made me feel better to know that so much of what I am going through is just normal, just being human. They said people the world over seem to hit bottom at around 44 and then it starts to get better. The good news is that once you hit your 50's and 60's you begin to feel more satisfied and happy than ever before. It seems that you learn to accept yourself as you are and get over all those lofty goals you (probably unrealistically) set when you were younger. So we all need to hang in there. I guess it gets better.

Denise

I thought it was interesting that you brought this up, I had just mentioned this report to a fellow poster, the popoman, the other day.
