Does anyone else experience heart palpitations? I have had them off and on since my major anxiety attacks started (February 2008). I probably had them before but never noticed. It is almost like my heart gets a single shot of adrenaline which causes one hard beat or my heart has one hard beat and a single shot of adrenaline follows. Which is it? Anyone else get this? I have had tests and worn a holter monitor which came back normal.
I get heart palpitations also. I don't get them usually unless I am anxious. So I know that anxiety can trigger them. It is a frightening feeling. Sometimes it is just a strange feeling that you get and it makes you cough. I know it has to do with adrenaline but I don't know the actual reason. I have had the tests before and they always come back normal. Still, it is very frightening and I don't like it! Just know that you aren't alone.
Hey. I actually recently began having them. one day i had them every few seconds for half the day! it was very scary to me i ended up crying.. i also have severe anxiety and am a hypercondriac! so that is most likely what sets them off. someone told me try to eat a banana when you have them and it made them slow down and not happen as often! so you should try that when it happens again..
I have been having them as long as I have had panic attacks (30 years) I can get heart palpitations at anytime of day, even when I am at rest reading a book, and not anxious at all.
I have had the holter, and a stress test, etc, and my doctor said could be from too much coffee, could be my thyroid levels, could be so many things, but I think they are related to the anxiety too.

Hi, I can relate to heart palpatations with or without anxiety. When I get them that many times leads to an anxiety attack because I am sure that I am having a heart attack. They really get bad when I drank anything with caffeine or eat chocolate. Does any one have inner nervousouness? That is one of my biggest problems now, and I really don't know why I feel this way.
It's a perfect time to practice your replacement thoughts when you have the heart palpitations. They are harmless almost all of the time. Even people w/out anxiety experience them. It's a chance to "brush it off"; don't give the feeling the attention your brain wants it to have and it won't bug you as much each time it happens. Be realistic with it though.

I have only started noticing the palpitations since I started Doxycycline for my Lyme Disease. I noticed them when I am relaxing...like going to sleep for the night. I wondered why they caused me to cough. Thanks, Shaky Susie, for sharing that. I also have thyroid problems, so that could be the cause of it as well. I try to be calm about it, even though I have been getting more chest pains recently. It's hard not to get scared when it happens. I think I need to listen to the relaxation CD more!

WOW, this describes me to a tee! I think I could have written those words. I don't understand it or why I feel like this either. If anyone has any suggestions, I would sure love to know! I'm wishing us both good luck. Rob.Originally posted by janlynna:
