Has anyone experienced or heard of throat clearing as a symptom of anxiety?

Yesterday when I went to a gastrointerologist for my reflux and we were discussing symptoms of reflux, he commented that throat clearing is also an anxiety symptom. I never heard of this.

Thanks.

mrsunderstood,

Thanks so much for the quick reply. Wow, so your throat clearing is from anxiety.

yes,but i not only do that but several other things that i am too embarrassed to mention, nothing gross, but i have been called out by family members on other things that i didnt realize i was doing. One day I told my sister that I was worried about my hair thinning and she said (If you would quit running your hands through it,it would quit falling out.I would pull on my hair until i pulled a hair out and then i would quit for a while.I wonder if this is anxiety or some kind of obsessive compulsive thing. My dr.says its just a nervous habit.

wow, I do this too. I never realized it was from anxiety, but when I get nervous I cough and clear my throat, or I bite my lips or put my hands on my face its really weird.

I don't necessarily think this is an anxiety symptom. My boyfriend does this all the time, but he has post-nasal drip.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
Frank Herbert

"How you climb up the mountain is just as important as how you get down the mountain. And, so it is with life, which for many of us becomes one big test followed by one big lesson. In the end, it all comes down to one word: grace. It's how you accept winning and losing, good luck and bad luck, darkness and the light."
