Ok does anyone else out there have a way to stop the Spontaneous out of dead sleep racing heart attacks. I wake up out of my sleep no thoughts or anything with my heart just racing. Sometime i do worry about taking a heart attack from it. I did notice that i sometimes wake up when a part of my body gets numb ( IE: arm, neck ect )

Do you remember your dreams? It sounds to me like you might be having a nightmare that is setting you off. I don't tend to remember my dreams, so it could seem to you like there's nothing setting it off.

Hi Diggy. I have had the same thing happen to me a few times now. I wake fine, only to have a rapid, spontaneous attack. I think it has to do with working the Program. I'm beginning week 4 and there's alot of processing that's going on for us. We're thinking about things, allowing ourselves to overcome negative habits, sometimes just hoping we'll sleep a few hours, but all in all I look at it as progress. As uncomfortable as it is - the awareness these moments and the Program are bringing me is what I signed up for. I committed to it. Of course, I didn't know it was going to get a little bit worse before it got better, but it's still so much better than living with the uncertainty of what was happening to me. Trust your decision to continue working toward your goals and remember - God is walking right beside us in this journey. Laura

I have the sam eproblem. I realize that I wake up thinking of what's making me angry. hen I usually can't get back to sleep and stay awake for hours. try teh relaxation technique. If it doesn't work, get up right away and turn ona movie that makes you feel good. It helps me forget what I was thinking about and ofte I fall back asleep by the 2nd movie on the couch. I have found that just because I go to bed, my mind doesn't. I use distraction. Anything that can distract you but not get you ramped up is fine.

I remember some of my dreams, usually weird ones. I don't recall any nightmares. When i do wake up with this, i wait till my heart is done and then i am able to go back to sleep till morning without another one. I did notice it happens when i 1st fall asleep , and i feel as though i have been in a deep sleep for hrs when it is only 15- or 20 mins. Could it be the birth control pill i take about a 1/2 hr to hr before bed?

Diggy, I too wake up in the middle of the night, with my heart wanting to come out of my chest. Prior to bed I pray and do the relaxation tape to help me relax and maybe get a good nights sleep. I don't know what brings on these attacks, but as soon as I start feeling my heart go off. I start to do the breathing exercise and let it pass. This has been helping a little. I just started the program, but hope that in the next few weeks, the additional skills I learn will help me overcome this.

I had trouble sleeping, until I joined a gym and did cardio exercises to get rid of anxiety,I look at anxiety as built up energy that you need to get rid of,I exercise until I get a full body sweat, gets rid of toxins and alows me to get a good nights sleep,I can't stress enough to everyone how beneficial exercise is to getting rid of anxiety, buy yourself an Ipod and load it up with your favorite music and go work up a real good sweat, works wonders.
