I'm on lesson 3, and this helps me stay focus on my positive qualities...
I've made a menu ( Just like in the restaurant. ) One side of the menu is filled with my negative thoughts and the other side with positive ones.
Now everymorning or anytime I feel down anxious, I look at this menu and I ask myself which side of the menu do I choose to be on?
The positive side ( which brings peace, joy and hope)or the sad side ( Which causes anxiety )
And I work hard to stay on that side on the menu. Now the menu changes as I keep adding to it, so it never remains dull,,, I make it as exciting as possible.
Also more and more I use the word Terrific..
EXAMPLE:
How are you today..? I reply I FEEL TERRIFIC, even when I not..
Instead of my past saying ... Oh !! not that good today..
I'm trying to fill my heart and mind with good thoughts and feeling,,, hoping at the end that is will be the person I become.
As the negative caused me anxiety and depression, the positive will make me alive and me once again.
Hoping this help for others..
Remember .... How do you feel???
answer.... TERRIFIC.... ha
Ciao Steven
Life is for LIVING, LOVING and most important... LAUGHING...
Stay on the positive side.
That's a good idea. Having them written out side by side and then choosing the positive ones for the day. Which side makes me feel good and which side makes me feel bad? The words we use really do have a powerful effect. I erased the word 'hate' from my vocabulary and just that makes a difference in how I feel. An affirmation from an old book by Louise Hay "Today's a good day because I choose to make it so." I'm going to write my menu right now.
Hi Steven,
Awesome menu idea! great thread to keep us all inspired and CONGRATS on your success, determination and dedication! I wanted to add some visual tools I use:
1. I picture a fork in the road, I also literally picture all the people and problems on one side, literally its dark and there are people pulling at me. The other side is beautiful, has my favourite animals, people, smells.. and I picture myself chosing to walk down the side that is pleasant..
2. Same idea as above accept there are two trains running parallel, if i feel bad I picture them stopping and me getting out and walking around to the positive train, getting on, then I do a little dance to myself..
3. AND the last big thing I did was in my mind a create this place inside myself, right in the middle, its my estate so to speak, it is a house that I designed, and has everything I ever wanted, its got all my favourite foods and animals, gorgeous bed and room done how I want.. its my 'dream' place, I make a point to close my eyes and go there when I am stressed and do the things I want - it really works!
4. of course the 'excitment' tool!
Just thought I'd share! thanks for posting! best wishes!

Maeggie - Those are good visualizations. I have a guided imagery tape I use at night that relates to your #3. I've used it so much that I can now bring it to mind when I feel down and I actually get a smile on my face (course people at the grocery store sometimes wonder why I'm zoning out and smiling about nothing! Ha.) These do work. I will get on the positive train today. I have one also I use when I'm feeling very uptight. I visualize myself hanging on to the side of a fast moving dangerous river being very terrified and not wanting to let go, and then see myself letting go and flowing down the river dodging all the rocks and boulders and everything is ok. The river symbolizes life and is supposed to teach us that we can flow with life and work with it not against it. It helps me sometimes just let go of fear.
Maeggie. can I come over and visit this wonderful dream house of yours.
I'll bring my our toothbrush.. NOW... what do I see in the fridgerator?
Mmmmm. and beer too. Wow,I not sure you'll be able to get rid of me. I think I might just as well move in.. Ha
That is a fanatisic idea. I think I'll start build my own dream place... and yes it will be so solid, that even the big bad woof will not be able to blow it down.
Mary, thank you for opening my eyes, I've never imaged the river symbolizing life and us floating to work with it and not against it.
Thank you both for giving me others ideal to help me focus on the positive side.
Ciao your candian friend Steven

Wonderful ideas all! And may I also stress the importance of surrounding yourself with positive people. I found during the past few years more and more negative people were creeping into my life and they really, truly affected the way I felt. I started to distance myself from these type of people (and sometimes it's hard to do as they may be family members or so on) and felt much better as I tried to attach myself to more positive thinking people. It all helps. Try not to take in too much negativity from the environment (including people).
