Ok, I didn't sleep well at all last night and today the anxiety took advantage of this. Every voice, every noise seemed amplified to me today. Things seemed so loud to the point that they were making me nauseous. I couldn't concentrate and I was horrible company to anyone. I just wanted silence but all I heard was noise. This ever happen to anyone?

I've been sensitive to noise all my life. It's always worse when I'm upset, anxious, or haven't slept well. I don't have any good suggestions though to get rid of it. I've adjusted my life accordingly. You could try ear plugs- I used to use them all the time - even at work HA

I'm sensitive to noise also as well as light. I get very overwhelmed and then feel like I need to be in a quiet place for a day or two to settle down. Going to a carnival or midway at the fair is way too much stimulus for me so definitely can relate.

It's nice to know that I'm not the only one! I loathe carnivals, ballgames, shopping malls, etc. Anything with noise drives me crazy. I feel guilty a lot as a Girl Scout troop leader and a mother of 2 girls. I feel like I stifle them.

Yes. I like things quiet and find it hard to understand people who don't. All those noises most people seem to able to ignore; I can't. In fact I focus on them and get annoyed.
I recommend sleeping with earplugs and if possible watch tv and listen to music with noise reducing headphones. They can block out a lot of outside noise.

jugray,

i have found it very difficult to be at work lately. i work in a busy hair salon and the noise is overwhelming at times. no suggestions as to what to do about it, other than to possibly try to change your focus. good luck.

Hi,
I also am very sensitive to light and noise. At night I sleep with a fan on. It helps to have the soft steady sound to dround out any noise. I also dont like it completely quiet at night or I cant sleep. During the day sometimes I listen to my i-pod. This seems to help. When i first started with the derealization I also had ringing in my ears. It would make me crazy so the music would dround it out.
Good luck to you. Hope some of this helped.
Amy

Is this related to OCD? I always thought that it was just me. I've hated loud noises since I was a child. My daughter is the same way.

Sorry, I gues it's an anxiety thing, I thought I was on the OCD board. Ooops.

I am Very sensitive to noise. I was at the mall the other day and noticed a new trend, the stores all seem to be playing really loud music. I noticed it at the bank, too. And it's not just the teenie bopper stores either. I seem to focus on the noise and I have diffculty concentrating. It happens at the hair salon and at work, too. When there are a lot of people talking at once, i can get anxious. I just try to remind myself that I'm not in any danger and I can't control other people. If I feel a little too stressed i just leave or if I'm at work, i'll just be honest with people and say I feel overwhelmed and go sit alone for a minute.
