Hi.
It's been many months since i've posted anything on the discussion board.
Does anyone else feel just totally exhausted from having anxiety/OCD all day long?
I don't compulse, but I do obsess, constantly think negatively, ruminating about things that I can't control, etc.
It seems like it takes all my energy just to work an 8 hour day as I'm so tired from the anxiety that there is nothing else left of me - energy wise to do anything else, but go home.
Socialising and having a personal relationship with someone is so difficult.
I have found the worst part of having this disease, is the sense of isolation it brings. That nobody really understands what it feels like to live with this brain disorder day in and day out .... it's so exhausting.
I have never spoken to anyone else that has OCD - so I suspect a support network, would probably help? Does talking with someone that has OCD help with the recovery process?
Thnx.
Exhausted ....

Hi - I have found OCD to be very exhausting - so much so, that sometimes I can't do anything except sit and Obsess. My problem is more witht Obsessive Thoughts than the Compulsions, also. I'm so impressed that you work 8 hours a day! I only work part-time, and sometimes that is very difficult. It is a good distraction most of the time, though. Yes, it does help to discuss your OCD with someone who has experienced it. It also helps to talk with a counselor who truly understands OCD. I do both. Let me know if I can help in some way.

hi shubert
thnx for your post in jan. and saying about your being impressed about me working full time..... my ocd has been pretty good last several months, but i'm going through a very stressful time @ work and my OCD flares up. so i just struggle to want to work fulltime ...
my ocd thoughts make me doubt a lot about who i am. i'm going to a counsellor, but it's more congitive than OCD based ....
have you found anything that helps with the constant doubts it brings - mine are pure obsessions. no compulsions.

Hi all,
I have my views on many of these disorders, and I will share some observations that I made this morning to a dear friend and his wife.
Check out this thread:

I will try to upload 2 things I have written: one that I sent my friend regarding the 6 step on Combatting Stress and Depression Program, and the other a piece on motivation that you may find helpful.
You can overcome this and it wont take the rest of your life, overcome these hurdles, but you have to follow the suggestions. If you want to overcome you must apply yourself to the task.
I tried to send but not image file and thus rejected. These are word files. I copy the one to my friends, but if you want the one on motivation I will send it to you if you provide me an email address to send it to. Otherwise I could spend the rest of the day trying to find the post on a thread I posted to some time ago, but I am sure that you may understand how much time that involves. Opps here they are:

There are 3 good links to help you get on an up beat.

Hi John and Elaine,
I ran across a thread post that I believe may be of help to both of you. It's just a common sense thing to do.

The Flash cards that I refer to are help mates to the program.
Intro card serves as a constant reminder of the breathing techniques suggested by the program. Breathe in through nose for a 2 count and hold for a 2 count and breathe out for a 4 count. This is just typical breathing advice and it does help.
Session 1 flash card is an aid in spotting symptoms of anxiety and catching them at their earliest to practice positive self talk to replace or give you a chance to begin to attack these thoughts or feelings.
However, they speak of it as inner dialog. I don't agree with this portion of this so called inner dialog. I believe it should always be an external or outward expression; Speak to hear yourself the things mentioned. Instead of inner dialog, speak to hear otherwise there will be a conflict of thoughts.
Session 2 flash card is very important. It has 6 steps to dealing with feelings of panic or anxiety. They suggest:
1) Accept and float, don't fight. This doesn't work for me. I am a fighter, and need to knock the stuffing out of opponents; otherwise, I don't understand how I can defeat my foe.
2) Permission- this is a theory that they believe helps empower you to recognize that you are having an anxious moment and allow yourself to accept it and give yourself permission to have it. I don't buy into this either. This is dealing with negotiating with the idea that you have to negotiate accept the anxious moment(s). If my opponent is so powerful that I can not defeat it, I just surrender it all to Jesus, and let Him deal with it for me. Give it permission to control me? No way! Give it Jesus and let it go and ignore it, cause I have confidence Jesus can and will handle it for me.
3) Breathe. I agree with this. The breathing techniques work to calm you down and think clearly. Breathe in for 2 count and Hold for 2 count, and then breathe out for 4 counts. This is the way I do; theirs is described slightly different but it all good and it works.
4) Inner Dialog- positive and comforting is how they phrase it. Inner dialog may work, but I believe in speaking and hearing it to be more effective. I feel great, I am great, He loves me, God is great, things such as these and many other spoken and heard will not out the thoughts that lead to anxious thoughts, and depressive feelings.
5) Distract- action, mental and physical for at least 15 minutes.
This could be the use of the WII, watching something funny that you might catch on Mad TV (involves hearing and seeing), reading positive things from known sources of things that will make you laugh, but if you decide to read things of this type, read them aloud. If you are around others, read them softly but so that you can hear and contemplate them as you hear them. Listen to your voice as intently as you can. Another great thing you can do is to write your thoughts and feelings, and what you did to overcome the thing that was troubling you. This will help you journal how you managed to steer yourself clear of the things that troubled you, discover patterns and the answers to better management of the problems you faced and how you beat them.
6) Let time pass- allow these words and actions have time to sink in and the bad to pass and this will help you sail through the rough waters or storms that you may encounter on your daily journey.
I think these strategies and things to do are great short term thing to do to help yourself, get back on track to help you realize that it is not be your own strength that you will overcome, but in His strength that that you must yoke yourself to and allow Him to shoulder your burden, to realize the Psalms 23 life that He wants for you.
John, don't just hold this for the blessing that you may find they may be to you. Open your hand and give it to Elaine so that it may be a blessing to her too. Hopefully these things may put excitement and joy in her heart as she gradually regains her confidence that God want her to have the joy that is His pleasure for her to have, and that she deserves all He has in store for both you and her.
John, you may know all these things, but you may not have expressed them to Elaine in quite this way. Please share these things I have written with her. It would make me feel better if you did that. Read it aloud and or have her read them aloud.
