I'm here on behalf of my mother-in-law. She is in a state of severe depression/anxiety. This is year 4! We do not have many options in this type of healthcare in our area so I'm looking for all the help I can get. The doc has said her serotonin level is not right....my question is.....can that be controlled?! She's on several meds but spends 20+ hours a day 'in the bed' anyway. We do not know how to help her. She isn't able to use the program currently...can't focus...but we have it ready and waiting for her. Any suggestions...anyone?

Hey i'm really sorry that she is having such a struggle. I've been in a very similar situation in which it was really hard to stay on track with things, focusing was very difficult and it made life a huge struggle. I've spent many months caged in my room at my own doing or i should say out of extreme fear and It is very difficult.

There is something that I've experienced to help me out. They call it the lemonade diet or the master cleanse. It isn't typical orthodox methods and I had alot of people say I was crazy for doing it but honestly it was the best thing i have ever done in my life and honestly I believe it gave me my life back.

One way to describe why the cleanse works is that we create alot of the serotonin our body needs in our intestines. Now when we have a really slow digestive system then solid matter builds up and the production of the serotonin goes down.

In an eastern viewpoint they say when we have a hard time letting go physically (constipation) then we are having a hard time letting go mentally as well (emotions, memories, thoughts) and consequently it compromises our ability to accept things being anything from emotions, memories, thoughts and even food (we don't have as good of an appetite).

If you're intrested, there is a website to a set of forums on the master cleanse (which isn't a product you buy from a website or anything they tell you what ingredients you need and you go buy them and they're pretty normal ingredients) and if it helps I also have a journal of my experience and everything that I got out of doing it and I'm 1000% sure this will help your mother-in-law.

Hello,
I would go on the internet and type in every medication she is taking and look up every side effect for each. These may be contributing to her problems. Most Drs are taught little about nutrition their taught how to write prescriptions. There are some shows you may find interesting Know The Cause (also have a web site) also on NRB or CNT Network Nutritional Living with Dr. Ward Bond
Doctor to Doctor on TBN on tuesdays also look up the Wolfe clinic very interesting. Also try to find a alternative Dr. that knows something about nutrition. Depression is not fun I suffer too along with anxiety. Hang in there and don't give up. Hope this helps
BELIEVE YOU CAN CONQUER ANYTHING~ AND YOU WILL !! I DID IT, YES !!!!!

Hey,

serotonin levels can be controlled to a degree, sometimes it may take a combination of medication, but you should know how all of them work as well as there side effects.Multiple meds can wack you out.Spending at least 20 hours a day in bed is detrimental in itself because body functions start to shut down.Even sitting up would be better.Sorry for her condition, but the only thing I can think of other then the meds and activity is to try to get her to focus on something other then herself. You may not focus on yourself when depression first starts, but after long depression that's all you focus on.Also if possible you don't get results from one doc go on to a next until you find someone with the fitting knowledge to help.

vbs,

when was her last doctor appointment when a good thyroid blood panel was done?

the reason that i ask is because thyroid problems (particularly low, or HYPO, thyroid problems) can lead to that fatigue, depression, and lethargic feelings.

i was diagnosed with autoimmune thyroiditis 3 years ago, and prior to that felt as if I was living in the past. By that, I mean that i was fatigued on a cellular level; i was completely wiped out- despite often getting 8-10 hours of sleep every night!

the sad thing is, that as i have researched this, there are many doctors who somehow overlook this simple, very common issue.

check if this was ever done. if not, it would not hurt to have this test done.

Keep in communication with her doctor. I don't know how long she has been on the meds, but it takes a few weeks for them to start working. Also with some people it takes time to find the right combination that works for them. Even though she can't focus it still might be helpful to play the relaxation cd or begin playing the program cds. Another idea would be to play tapes of positive talk or positive music that is comforting to her. She is lucky to have such caring family members.

Hi vbs; I really feel for your mother-in-law. What torture! There are healthy solutions. Please buy the book "Depression Free, Naturally" by Joan Mathews Larsen. It is so helpful and explains what is going on and how to fix it plus they have a clinic. Please check it out. It could change her life.
