Anyone take Zoloft?
I am not personally taking Zoloft, but my sister has been taking it for many years. It has made a huge difference in her. She use to be housebound because of her anxiety and phobias. Now she is outgoing, loves to travel and has completely changed for the better. I don't remember her even complaining of any side effects. I feel that everyone responds to medicines differently but I do feel you should give it a try and see how it works for you. I completely understand as I have a phobia about taking medications. Good luck. God Bless!
I took Zoloft for many years and it was THE medication that freed me from a housebound life of anxiety and panic attacks. It got me out the door and back to work and even allowed me to participate in showing llamas.
Unfortunately, the benefits eventually wore off, as with many anti-depressants, and now I find myself with no medication capable of helping.
Yes, I have tried a LOT of them and unfortunately, I am VERY sensitive to side effects. If anyone is going to have them, I will.
I miss my Zoloft terribly. It helped me to live again.

I have been on Zoloft for a year now. I know what you mean about the phobias. The Zoloft sat in my cabinet for a year before I decided to take it. It got to the point where I wouldnt leave my house and had to quit my job so I finally decided to suck it up and just take the zoloft. I have my life back now. I dont have panic attacks and I am working two jobs. I did have some side effects but I got through them. If you have any questions please dont be afraid to ask. You will get through this!
I have been on Zoloft for about 3 years now. At first
I was on the name brand kind. I started with 50mg a
night and started to see unbelievable results in just
about a week. This is unsual but I was in a very acute
state at the time. Couln't stop crying (even in public).
My son was getting into major trouble (14 then) & had
confrontational issues. My husband wasn't able to cope
with my son's issues & I shouldered them pretty much
by myself. I have had a history (family history too)
of anxiety & depression since I was little. Without the
support, I got deeper into a rut & although I had fought
using medication for years, I decided it was necessary
to function. It felt like a miracle! Life was much easier
to cope with for about a year. Then in the fall, I started
to go down hill, weepy, depressed, sleeping all the time.
I was increased to 100mg but didn't see a great improvement.
I even tried switching to Prozac but had a major reaction:
extreme depression & muscle tightness. Was later diagnosed,
with Seasonal Effective Disorder.I went back to the Zoloft &
did better (also used light therapy).
My insurance company will no longer pay for the brand name &
I now have GI symptoms from the generic. I still use it, however.
I also have a tremendous problem with loss of libido. Not
sure what came first the chicken or the egg syndrome, since
I am also on a hypertensive drug for cardiomyopathy (not high BP).
I'm not sorry I used the Zoloft: I really needed to be functional
& decrease suicidal thoughts (even though I felt I would never
act on them).
Sorry for this lenghty response but I do think though that if one
uses drugs it should always be in combo with a behavioral mod. program,
such as this one. I also have known people who have used this & other
drugs & because of the biochemical changes it causes in the body, have
trouble weaning off of them. So I wonder if the shorter the time you use
them, the easier it would be to wean? These are just my thoughts
& experiences. I hope they can be of some help in your decision
making process, which ultimately, only you can make.
Best wishes & support!

**hopeful**, I, too, had a loss of libido when I was on Zoloft. It is one of the biggest reasons my husband does not support my use of medications to assist me with my anxiety and depression as that seems to be a side effect of pretty much all of them, at least FOR ME.
For those of you reading this, please keep in mind that side effects vary from person to person and you may not experience the same thing. I happen to be one of those people who is VERY sensitive to side effects AND who responds to medications in a VERY short period of time.
As I said earlier, Zoloft was like a miracle drug for me; however the benefit did finally wear off (after MANY years of use) and I have yet to find anything else that has offered the same benefit.
I guess I did get pretty dependent on the medication doing all of the work. Now, I guess I'll have to try to do it on my own.
This is going to be VERY, VERY difficult. I appreciate all of the encouraging posts I've received, but I guess in the place I'm at right now, the cheerleading just doesn't seem to help. I'm looking forward to the day it does.
