I seem to have a very vivid imagination. I can stress about anything, imagine catastrophes to the detail.. this does not help my anxiety. I was thinking that a lot of my imagination is fueled by the things I am seeing on TV. The diseases I make up for myself are the things I saw on Tues nights episode of House, the Volcano eruption that ends the world was off the discovery channel, and on and on. I was wondering if I should just shut it down and not have any TV.
Has anyone else done this….has it helped?
Can you watch TV?
I definately think the things we watch on tv can affect our level of anxiety. I remember when I was going through my "I think I'm going to hurt someone" phase, I couldn't watch certain things on tv because it gave me more things to be afraid of! I couldn't watch the news or anything. I couldn't say exactly what the right answer is, but maybe you could be careful what you are watching at least until you have gotten through the program and have more coping skills.
This is funny for me because I actually had it happen on Thursday night. We have seen a movie called The Entity many times over the years right...well we decided to watch it and low and behold I found it was giving me anxiety feelings so I turned it off and watched Frasier instead. I was really shocked at this as I don't ever think it bothered me other times. can't explain this but can relate.
I would agree...stay away from medical shows or any type that make you anxious and watch something to make you laugh instead.
Have a good day!

I can totally relate to you...I can't watch the news, or scary movies. I have had panic attacks the last four times I went to a theatre even to watch Spiderman or Harry Potter. I generally watch HGTV, Wheel,Reba or Dancing shows. I guess the are safe to me. I avaoid quite a few things now. Not sure when the fear will go away but I hope it does. In the meantime, I try to watch things that might make me laugh:) Humour is good!
