I've battled back and forth as to what my career choice is going to be in life. I'm 27 yrs old and have not gone to college. I've been in the corporate world since I was 18. I worked at a company for 8 years until I moved to the company I am currently at since last year. I make good money considering I have no degree.
I took a leave of absence from work due to my anxiety getting worse. I've been doing the program and also reflecting on my life. I have a part time job in an emergency animal hospital as a secretary and have loved animals my entire life. I always considered a job as a vet nurse. The program is 2 years and you get your Associate's degree.
Now here's my question. I don't think my anxiety is caused by work, just life in general, and thinking of changing careers considered running in some way or just a realization as something I want to do? Animals have always made me happy and working part time in a vet hospital has shown me how rewarding a vet nurse job can be.
Has anyone else had an experience like this?
Running or Realization?????
Hello GI822:
I'm constantly re-inventing myself. I worked in business for many years. I went to school for psychology during the time I worked and then went back to school when I was 32 years old for nursing. I'm 45 now and wonder what I'll be doing when I'm 50? It's so exciting venturing on new journeys!! You can do whatever you want .... whenever you want. That is so fun that you work with animals. People that I know absolutely love working with them and tell me all the time they feel so rewarded as well. You're young...look into this new prospect and enjoy every moment of going to school and learning where your new life will bring you. Congratulations on thinking beyond. You're smart to use this particular time to re-evaluate what you want out of YOUR life. Good for you...I say go for it if this is something you think you would enjoy doing. Hey...if you decide not to continue with it for what ever reason,...education is NEVER wasted. I used all my credits earned during the psychology phase of my schooling and was able to buzz through the nursing portion of my RN because of all the previous schooling I had. It was never a waste!!
My best to you!!!

Hey girl.
I agree with Sidd on this one! I have had many different jobs, and owned several different businesses.
The truth is, when you are not happy with your work, or it isn't your passion...that can actually cause a lot of anxiety. Of course, we will not be happy ALL the time with whatever career we pursue, but if it is something you love, you will wake up most of the days happy to go. I pray you find this for yourself. I believe we were all given gifts, and special talents...what a waste if we don't use them!
If you are concerned that the career change is you running from your anxiety about going back to your job...then perhaps give yourself a time frame there. Maybe go back for a few months at least so you know that it isn't you running and begin to get comfortable there again. Then you will have the best of both worlds. You will be more confident in your self & decision, you will will have faced this anxiety head on, and you will be making steps to pursue a career that you will really enjoy.
GO FOR IT! I don't believe we are ever too old to change, (27 is really young anyway) and we may take several paths throughout our lives. Enjoy it! Do something that sets your heart on fire.

Frances and Sidd,
Thank you for the advice and support
I think it is something I really want to pursue. And like Sidd said if for some reason it doesn't work out or I change my mind, there won't be a waste in learning something new. I think like you said Frances that maybe not being happy at my current job is causing some anxiety. I love the people I work with, just not the job so much.
I'm going to take the steps to move forward with this. Thanks, again!
