Heart Palpitations.....
My name is Jaime. I've had anxiety for a few years now...well, I've had it since I was a teenager but didn't know it until after a car accident I had in July 2006. With this "anxiety" came heart palpitations where I feel like my heart is skipping a beat or fluttering. It's been better since I read this book called Hope and Help for your Nerves by Claire Weekes but I still get them. I have already had all the heart tests and everything....the full stress test, EKG, and Echo with Doppler. Does anyone else have this problem?
Anxiety is living in the future, Depression is living in the past.

I sure do. I am having them this morning and have had them ever since my dad died 4 years ago. I actually had them before then I just didn't pay attention to them or fear them. Now I am constantly fearing that I am going to die from a heart attack. I know exactly how you feel. It is scary - I too have had several tests and all say I am fine. Reading helps me a lot and this website is a great resource for you as well.

Hi,
Sounds like heart palpatations are pretty popular. I get them especially when I lay down to go to sleep. They are so strong sometimes it feels like it effects my breathing.
I went to the hospital 2004 and had a bunch of tests. They said it was anxiety. I thought I was having a heart attack. I still worry when I get them that I will have a heart attack. I am new to the program, only recieved the welcome booklet from Lucinda so far. Palpatations aren't really my main problem but I was suprised to see the subject come up, so I had to reply.
When I get the palpatations I do breathing excercises now. They make me feel calmer.

Hi all. I read this post with much interest as I have been having these palpitations and/or skipped beats for years. Sometimes they get so bad that if I lean back against a chair I can feel them beating on the back of the chair. My doctor calls them "pvc's".
Normally, I don't even feel these or know they exist. However, last Tuesday I had a really intense anxious episode which took a long time to calm myself from and ever since then I have noticed these thump-thumps and sometimes my heart feels like it's going to jump right out of my chest.
It got so bad that last night I took myself to the local ER and they took me right in and performed test after test. Everything came back normal. The ER doc talked with me for a long time (bless him) and we went over all my history and he assured me that these were only the pvc's that I have had for years, millions of people have them and they are not in the least dangerous.
He showed me my results. All my bloodwork, including blood enzymes, were perfect. my oxygen level was perfect, my EKG was perfect (it only showed the skipped beats). I had a stress test in 2006 as I ended up at the ER then as well with the same thing. It was perfectly normal. I asked him if I should have another stress test. He said that he would put a note to that effect to my family doctor but he really felt that it wasn't necessary but if it would further relieve my mind my doctor could schedule one. I see him on January 20th on another issue.
The ER doc assured me over and over that it was stress and anxiety and to "try" and forget about them like I normally have been able to do, although he said it could take some time. I asked, "then it's okay to go for my one mile walk". He answered, "absolutely, it is the best thing I could be doing".
Long story short, we anxious people, millions of us, tend to have these heart palpitations. I have had mine since university and that was many light years ago. They are harmless. Try and forget about them, as tough as that is. They will never harm you.
If any wish to discuss this further, just shoot me a PM on this site and I'll be happy to share more about my experiences with anxiety and my symptoms.
Take care and I hope this rather long story helps my friends out there!
Bob.

Thanks to everyone for responding. I have been working through them and I don't go to the ER anymore. I cannot even count how many times I have gone for that...it got so bad that I was going to different ER's because they got to know me so well. It's horrible. I know they are "normal" but they bother me so much. I used to be so care free and would never worry about them. I guess I just have to trust the doctors because there are not anymore tests they can do on my heart. The thing is, I live alone and it used to be great living alone and I loved it but I'm 32 now and its starting to bother me. This site helps me soooo much because none of my friends truly understand...well except for one...I have a key to her house so I just go over there instead of the ER but it would be nice to sleep at my own house for a week strait.
Yes, I do get them when I exercise (which for me is walking). My doctors said to keep on going as they are not harmful in the least, and the ER doctor last night confirmed that and said that my daily walk is the best thing I could do (see my post above). You are certainly not alone. Bob.Originally posted by ellkay:
