I have to get on a plane tomorrow and it scares me to know end...I feel like I am going to be trapped up there and no way out and all the what if's that go along with it...I started the program I am only on week 1. I don't want to run from this and make some excuse to cancel my trip (like I would normally do)but I am so fearful that I am gonna go crazy and make a fool of myself.... Or be a nervous wreck the entire time I am on vacation dreading the flight home and being away from my safe zones. I just know the anticipation of waiting in the airport and on the plane is going to be so overwhelming for me to deal with and I just don't know how to cope or stay focused on my relaxation..Everything I know what I should be doing will go right out the window and I will probably be focused on what is happening at that moment and I won't be able to move past that, even now as I am writing this the muscles in my neck, throat and shoulders are tensing up. I have not been afraid to fly before so this is somewhat new to me although anxiety and panic attacks have been apart of me for almost 20 yrs. off and on. Does anyone have any suggestions???? HELP!!

For anyone who has a fear of flying. I highly recommend the "Achieving Comfortable Flight" tapes and the Attacking Anxiety program. I had nightmares about flying and exactly all the things that "vegas girl" described. I admit that I freaked out somewhat when I first got on the plane and saw how small it was.... but I was also filling myself up with negative thoughts. As soon as I felt the air from the vent above me hit my face, I felt calmer. I put on my headphones and listened to the tapes. That was the only time I felt panic. Since my first flight in 2005, I went again the next year. I did really well. I would rather fly, because you get there faster. I would hear people say "I love to fly" Now I am one of those people. It is interesting that in 2006, our plane had a problem and I was the calmest on on the plane!!!! My family can not believe that I would rather fly than drive! :D
