I am in the 5th day of session 2 and have been having an unusual increse in aniexty. I have been diligent in my six steps but only having limited sucess. It just seems to hang on me all day with no relief. I must admit however my job as of late has turned up the stress levels. Is this common, to have an increase due to heighten awareness?
Hopeful in Michigan.
Heighten Awareness - Session 2
I feel the same way.
I think it's normal. Being made more aware, means we're going to be more sensitive to the things going on within ourselves.
The increase in stress at work certainly doesn't help.
Go easy on yourself. Give yourself credit. You've come this far. Don't stop now. You're in the process of working through this. Who knows where the path will lead. Float with it for a while.
Just keep the positive self talk going. Breathe. Take care of yourself.
Hang in there.

I am in a similar situation. My job is fast paced and stressful. Cutting back on cofee is another hardship. It all seemed to get stronger but I wasn't. however I'm sticking with it because I've made more progress with this program than all my personal research and attempts in the past year and a half. But today I had a small sucess using the six steps and it felt GREAT. you will get there if you just stick with it and implement the program as presented in the work book. remember the introduction work book? it said if you do all the steps and homework in that weeks section you will be ready for the next session EVEN IF YOU THINK YOUR'E NOT! YOU CAN DO IT. IT WILL GET BETTER. remember the tapes tell us recovery is not instant. keep going with faith in yourself and let me know any sucesses no matter how small you may think they are. even the small ones feel great. looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Awareness is one step. Learning what to do next comes later. So it is natural to feel some increase in anxiety, because it is something new.
So how specifically is your job more stressful? Is it a time crunch, higher expectations, unclear expectations, difficult coworkers or boss, not enough autonomy over your work or your schedule, monotonous work or too difficult workload... some clarity here would help you develop some action to manage the stressors.
Do everything you can think of to take care of your physical needs. Not enough sleep and caffeine make us more vulnerable to mood swings and impulsive responses.
Give yourself lots of credit for starting this journey.

i definitely thithinknk i know what you're talking about Red50. I've been having issues with feeling more anxious from the program. But I think that's because the program forces us to examine and deal with all this "uncomfortable-ness" instead of trying to push it off to the side or shoving it under the rug to continue to function. That's certainly what I do, and am going to work on stopping.
Good luck! You'll get it. It takes patience and participation.
