Hi,
I've recently (the past few days) been feeling nauseous when eating food. It starts when I'm chewing. I've been having more difficulty swallowing as well. I know that I've had a lot of stress lately, but I need to eat as I've lost weight recently and it's embarassing.
I'm sure that it is probably most likely from the anxiety, but I also have a small cold too and can feel the stuff in my throat.
Any pointers to help with eating? Thinking about it makes me more nauseous, so I try to avoid it, but then I have to try to eat and it starts all over again!
Thanks!
Ocean
Nausea when eating?
Hi Ocean. First, I want to say how nice it is to see you. I guess I've been online when you weren't these past weeks. Now for your nausea problem. I sure have this same thing when I have a cold, even a small one. I don't have any good ideas, except this one, which I know you already know. Drink lots of fluids. I really think the gatorade type drinks are best because they keep your electrolytes in balance. Get the quart size and just make yourself sip some every ten minutes. The more out of balance those body electrolytes get, the worse you will feel. Hope you can stay hydrated and feel better soon. (I also avoid salt and sugar, it seems to make the nausea worse).
Hi Pecos,
Thanks for the warm welcome, that makes me feel good =)
I do think that I am most likely dehydrated, we drove back from California on Sunday and made it to Ohio at 1 am on Thursday and we were trying not to drink a lot so we wouldn't have to pull over every 20 minutes (many areas there are no places to do so anyhow!).
And I had a lot of stress from the trip and moving back to OH after just 2 months in CA (house didn't sell in OH, so we had to move back), lots of wasted money (now on credit cards, yikes!).
I took my blood test for Lyme almost 2 weeks ago, I'd tried to before and lab said, 'oh you have to be here before 11 am to do this one'. So I'm anxious about that too.
Ugh!! I think I'm a mess too from not sleeping well, adjusting to time change, ect.
I usually don't have nausea though which I hate and then my grandma goes off about "my goodness how thin you are" which of course makes me nervous about my health!
It's probably a combo like you said from the cold and needing fluids.
Alright, I'm going to drink right now, thanks again!
take care,
Ocean

Welcome home, Ocean!
You have been through a lot os stress.
I don't have any answers for your nausea.
But wanted to wish you well.
Bless your heart. I know that was a hard 2 months.
But you will get your feet "back on the ground" there in Ohio.
Some day when this economy turns around maybe you can try again if you want to.
In the mean time I hope you get to feeling better.
Wishing you health!

Can I ever relate to you with nausea and drainage and anxieity. First of all when I have drainage it seems to me the mucus that causes the upset stomach. If you have an already empty stomach and the mucus is draining to the stomach it can make you nauseated. With myself I try to eat apples help me for some reason if not that crakers and ginger ale. I also recommend breathing exercises to relax. THe swollowing thing I can so relate to also. If you relax it will help, when you are tense even your swollowing muscles tense up. So try a few deep breaths and let go then try and swollow. If you need to just snack all day long even on the same thing if necessary. The empty stomach is not good. The acid will make you nauseated. I hope i have helped as I have experienced all the same things. Just 2 days ago I had alot of drainage and I was nauseated so I have been there. Peace to you
Anna
COrnflower,
Thanks for the welcome! It has been a hard 2 months. I'm being tested for Lyme Disease too, which if I have it, it has been for over 12 years. Lyme Disease (or more specifically, a co-infection of Lyme, called Bartonella) can cause anxiety and panic attacks and agitation.
I have other symptoms too, sometimes swollen knee (and I'm 29) that lasts for about 24 hours, sore feet/legs that occur about every 30 days, difficulty swallowing (another Lyme symptom). If I test postive I plan to write about it here just in case there are others on this board who may have it and think they 'only' have anxiety (not downplaying it at all, I can handle the physical symtpoms, it's this anxiety that drives me up the wall!)
Mrs. A,
Thanks so much for the tips. I am feeling better today, a little nauseous, but much better. I will definitely try your suggestions and I'm sorry that you are going through the same thing, it's awful!
Take care,
Ocean

I have dealt with the nauseousness, as well, and mine is definitely related to anxiety. My VERY low point of the days is always in the morning, so, by afternoon, usually the nervousness has lifted a little bit and I am able to eat a few bites.
I am going thru the not eating thing this week, as well, so you are not alone. When I am at my worst, I just can't even try to put anything in my mouth, so I try to get a grip, and once the sun starts shining & things start looking up, then I usually am able to eat a little bit.
