Flying in 2 weeks! Need Help!
I am flying from Florida to California in 2 weeks for vacation. I am wanting this to be fun and enjoyable but afraid of the flight. My husband and I are going for our one year aniversary and we are meeting family and freinds there. I am so scared that I am going to feel like crap the whole time I am there because of my anxiety. I am afraid to get on the plane. I have never been scared to fly before. I have been to Hawaii twice and that is a 9 hour flight. I had no problems with it at all. I didn't even have anxiety about it. My biggest fear is not being able to run when I get on. The What if thoughts are getting the best of me and I am so scared. I wake up every morning sick to my stomach. Can anyone help or have words of encouragement.

Your dealing with classic anticipatory anxiety, which we all do, but obviously there is more pressure with this situation- pressure to enjoy yourself, pressure to have things be "good" for your husband, and so on. One thing I can tell you is the anticipation is ALWAYS worse than the actual event. I know how hard it is to use that logic when your in the state of worrying about it, but try and keep it in mind.
I would recommend you pack a bag of "comfort" items- things that sooth you- a meditation/relaxation CD, essential oil, good luck charm, whatever else you like. I like to have this for times that I am anxious about. I end up feeling "prepared" and comforted. Sometimes I write a list of affirmations and bring it with me and re-read them.
Your husband will be help to help as well- let him know what you need from him to help calm you.
You might want to talk to you doctor about getting a prescription for a short acting benzo, like Ativan or Xanax for the plane ride and if you should experience high anxiety during the trip- it can really really help and make things more enjoyable.
Remember- believe in yourself. You can do this and things will be better than you can imagine.
