The hardest time for me (and I am on like week 13) is still first thing in the morning. I wake up cold and shaky. Then I can easily get my mind going if I don't stay positive. Once I get up and get moving it seems to go away but I have that "pit" in my stomach for a while. I am always better in the afternoon and evening. Anyone had somthing similar? Does it go away? Any tips?

Mornings are my hardest part of the day too, but that I just don't want to get started. I am not sure if it is anxiety ridden or laziness though.

I am worse on the weekends, I like a plan, M-F, work 8-5, pick up kids, dinner, bathe kids, bed kids, my time........

Weekends are tough because there is no plan, unless I have work to do around the house, if so, I am good, but with no purpose like work, I dread getting out of bed to face the day.

I really thought it was laziness, but it may not be.

I had that in the beginning too. I dreaded the weekend because I didn't know what to do with myself and my time. That will get better once you start feeling better. I had the same problem being alone, but that has also gotten easier.

I've had both. I don't really get the weekend thing anymore, but if my anxiety is going to act up it's going to start in the morning. I am careful of what I put through my head as soon as I begin coming out of sleep.

Yes, I believe it does go away. I believe that you can make a habit out of talking to yourself positively in the mornings. Sometimes it was like two conflicting voices -- one negative, one positive. It took some time, but my positive voice is generally louder now.

The early morning thing is an issue I have heard MANY of the people on the boards discuss. It's very normal. Ken even says on one of the tapes that you can ruin a day in the first 15 seconds (or something). Just keep doing what you are doing and, yes, it will get easier.

Mornings have been my worst to but I've carried it into the rest of the day too. I am getting better though and I know this will take time too! I think that it is so important to continue to take baby steps and look back once in a while to see even the smallest amount of progress. One step in a positive direction is better than the usual stalemate or even going backwords.

I wake up almost every single day in a panic... like I don't know what I'm doing or I can't stop thinking about what I dreamed of. It's frustrating. But it always goes away.

Like you do, I get up and try to stay positive. Not obsessing over it is probably the best thing you can do.

You are right.

Does anyway wake up with the chills though? I am really wondering why I am so cold in the morning - is it the anxiety?

This symptom is usually a trigger for everything else and if I don't stay positive I can get worse. Will it go away?

The chills are a result of the anxiety and nothing more. You can let that go. We get anxiety from thoughts, feelings and dreams. When you wake just remind yourself that it was probably a dream. (You do not have to remember it in order to make the feelings go away.) The feelings will leave. Use your thought stoppage followed by calm breath. Then count backwards from 100 slowly. You'll drift off back to sleep or calm yourself down so that you can start your day. Don't carry this with you throughout the day. There is no need to. You can handle it even if you always wake up this way. Let it go so the rest of your day can be in peace.

JJ,
This is my first day with the on-line program so not sure on procedures. I have the same issue you have on AM problems. I'm only on week two so not much experience with the program, but I take one Diazepam 2 MG ( Valium )first thing after getting up and it helps a lot. I agree mornings can be incredably difficult, but this helps me.

I start every day with a prayer, before I even get up. I had a stroke 4 years ago. Any day I wake up and know who I am and where I am, I count as a great day. Don't focus on the bad things that might happen. Thank God for 5 good things before you hit the floor.
