I have been taking Effexor XR 150 mg for about 3 years, along with Wellbutrin SR 150 mg. About 3 months ago the doctor started increasing the dosage of Effexor XR. Now I am up to 225 mg a day. I thought I would be a zombie but I'm not. Since starting the Program I haven't had a panic attack. I have gotten the initial symptoms but have been able to control it so it goes away.

I was previously on Paxil and gained 30 lbs. which I have lost about 25 lb of since being on Effexor and Wellbutrin. Wellbutrin is great for quitting smoking so I have done that easily.

I think with any of the medications we have to be careful we don't eat a lot of candy, chips and pop. I have cut most of it out, but it's hard to do.

Hope this helps.....Jackie

I was on effexor years ago. Today I went to a new psychitriatrist and he prescribed effexor at 37.5 mg and busbar and valium as needed for sleep. For someone who does not want to take alot or any meds, this is hard, he has given me 3 meds. ugh. I feel bad about this. but in the past effexor did help me. I had very little withdrawal problems but I had severe withdrawal from lexapro. so, I think everyone's reactions to these meds is different. keep us posted how the effexor is working for you.
peace,
Mary

Thanks everyone for the responses!

The effexor has been alright. It hasn't really taken away all of my symptoms. I still get kind of depressed and just a little anxious here and there. But I just have to work on those things by myself since meds aren't a cure all.

Thanks again everyone.

my best friend loves effexor. She tried to go to wellbutrin because she and her hubby want another child but there is no comparison. She went back on effexor and is doing great, but now has to wean herself off slowly so she can start trying to have a baby. For her, the headaches were the worst getting off of it.-Good Luck!

Hello everyone - I have been on effexor for 2 yrs now at various dosages of 150 & 75mg. 150mg mitigated nearly every anxious event while 75mg does not. I do not like taking medications so I was hoping to reduce my usage and eventually be clean but stressful moments/anxiousness persist. several times are attempted to go off effexor (after 2 days) started getting headaches and what felt like mental shocks (sounds weird I know) but best description I can make. I am educating myself through L.Bassett's website and look to apply knowledge in getting control over anxious situations, over time of course. Good luck to all of you! Don

just to note, norepinephrine is a fat burner.. they use it alot in body building.. since effexor inhibits it, we gain weight.. and there's not much we can do about it besides not taking the medication..we have to try to fight this anxiety with our minds.

This is the WORST antidepressant I took! It made me crave carbs and especially beer. Don't take it! The withdrawal sent me to a psych ward.

I have been taking Effexor-xr for several years. I have gained a lot of weight also & my appetite is worse. When I don't take Effexor I want to cry all time & my nerves are shot as well & I go int a deep depresion. I also sleep a lot as well.

Hello I am on Effexor xr 150mg in the morning. 75 at night. I like being on it it makes me less nervous to be on it than I probably would if I was on something else. I take so much med that sometimes I am afraid they are counteracting each other
