Anxiety and Epiglottis Symptoms
I'm so glad that now you realize that you are not alone. see what anxiety can do to a person horribe isn't it? as the above posts we have all been through what you are going through being its eppiglottis (sp???) or something other in the neck and throat. Okay her is one for you...... you are not alone remember....... I have a fear now of eating chips or tostitos or anything that can get stuck in my throat. because i'm afraid i will chock. see...your not the only one here. and other times i can eat the above and not think about it twice. anxiety plays tricks on the mind remember. your sooooooooooooooooo far from alone......... we will heal!!! happy new year to you!!! 2005 will be a healing and learning time for you as well as all of us!! stay strong. Peace!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Lana, I'm glad I could help. I remember vividly how it felt, and how then I would focus on it! I still get it on occasion, but I know what it is. My doctor prescribes me clonazepam, a benzodiazepine (sp), and it helps me with general anxiety all the way around, so it loosens things back up again. I was so mad when I found out that globus was PSYCHOSOMATIC!! Because I KNEW it was real! I could feel it! He said there are so many people who go to the ER and then they can't find anything at all.
I'm not sure how I got over it. I take meds and have had therapy for many years. I take the anxiety meds "as needed" and as long as my need for them doesn't increase, my pdoc has always been good about prescribing it. I try to use as little as possible.
Hey - this year, this year your throat will stay open and you'll sing instead!
Keep doing those searches and you'll probably find some more good info. Sometimes chamomile herb tea was nice, it was warm and calming, and created the circumstances for some fake pill stuck in your throat to dissolve

Hey all:
Thanks for being there for me and for your replys and support. It is a blessing to know that you care enough to take the time to reply. I went to the last possible doctor today which is the Infectious Disease one, after my primary and the ENT and he said all test came back pretty much normal. There is nothing abnormal in my throat!! As glad as I was I was almost "P" "O"'d because I was hoping for some type of explanation
. I got one alright.. I gave it to myself and I am really almost 100% convinced that this is all anxiety related. I don't understand though, how can I always (pretty much constantly) feel this "Globus" even when I am not anxious. Like today, I was not anxious at all, I had a great day and I went out and everything.. to be honest, hearing everything was ok is a great relief.. and the sensation today was not as bad as usual but it was still there.. any ideas? I also get these weird dizzy spells, on and off.. is that all related too?
Stress:
Don't be afraid of eating the chips. If you want a few, go right ahead but keep it in moderation since they are not the healthiest for you
. Chew them well and you will be just fine.

Thanks for suggesting Chamomile, I am drinking it and I love it. It has replaced coffee and tea for me.. Also, if you can remember, did you also feel in that the sides of your throat were almost swollen, like something was choking you or pressing against the sides of your throat and other times just the lump sensation.. and did you used to feel it when you turned your head/neck? I hate this but I guess it will go when I start to STOP thinking of it..
Everything is really appreciated so much..!

Yes, I get those weird, not the norm, feelings also. It is so weird how you can get the symptoms without even feeling the anxiety.. I find that when I pray during these bad feelings, it tends to give me more strength, just knowing what it is, (anxiety) and I am no longer afraid of it and then it goes away.. try it
. My email is lanawaked@hotmail.com if you want to talk some more.

this is to everyone that has posted about this I am so thankfull for all of you because i thought i was going crazy and that there was somthing very wrong with me. It all started the day before yesterday i was sitting on the comp. talkin on myspace when i noticed a strange feeling in my throat kindda like the feeling when your gonna cry i guess the lump you get. But i didn't pay much attention to it and a while latter it was gone. Then yesterday i was doing some stuff finishing up on registration for collage(on the comp. again) and i noticed that the feeling was back again, but i thought it would go away because it did the last time. so a few hours went by and it started to get worse and i do have a history of anxiety and panick attacks. anyway i was reading a book when i for some reason noticed it a lot more and freaked out started getting pannicked, but i got myself calmed down some but i still don't know what it is. at first i thought it was just a weird feeling there wasn't really anything there but after a while i started to think what if there is somthing there so i put my finger down my throat and i can feel somthing there i don't know what it is. But by the sounds of it, it's my epiglottis. Whatever it is it is the most irritating feeling and you can't help but focus on it which in turn only makes it worse. I'm scared to eat because theres stuff that gets stuck in my throat or so it feel anyway. I' so worried about it i don't know what to do and i don't know if it is my epiglottis or if it's somthing else. The worst part is i don't have health ins. to go to the doc. so i'm really stuck. I'm tryin to stay calm and not think about it AND i have been tryni to keep my throat relaxed basically anything that i cando to make it better i'm trying. But please if anyone has any tips or mabey know what else it could be any info. would be so very appriciated

Tiffy...I have had that choking sensation many times from anxiety...At times, it would not act up at all, and I could swallow anything with no problem at all. Then, the next time that I would just try to swallow a pill, and I couldn't get it to go down...I know now that this is just anxiety, and that it is no big deal, so, I honestly don't let it bother me in the least...
God Bless...
God Bless...

Hello:
One of the first symptoms I experienced with anxiety and depression was that choking feeling.
Along with other symptoms. I remember it well.
And yes, it was scary.
When you get your anxiety under better control that will ease up.
Do all that you can to lessen your stress factors. And use the relaxation CD.
Wishing you many feel-good days!
