Please keep in mind that Lexapro (or any other antidepressent) is not a cure for anxiety. Use the medication to help you get calmed down enough to focus on developing your CBT processes.
Also, your diet plays a huge role in how you feel. Sugar, caffene and even too much salt can increase your anxiety substantially.
Combine changes in your diet with vigorus daily exercise and you will likely be able to start to ramp down your need for the medication all together. But don't forget the CBT training. :)
God Bless and peace be with you.

Hello, I have been on Lexapro 10mg for 5 yrs now and I was doing absolutely fabulous until last month when I got sick with strep. I have no idea what happened!!!!!! So they up'd me to 20mg and I was soooo nervous on that and they brought me back down to 10mg. I'm doing somewhat okay but I think I need to switch. Any suggestions? Oh yeah and when they put me on PROZAC it totally didn't help. It made me worse.

I am glad that I stopped in! I have been taking 5mg of Lexapro for about 4 yrs now, and recently had a terrible sinus infection and the anxiety got very bad, and then led to depression. I was having panic attacks, depression, etc so my doc suggested me taking 10mg. She told me that I needed to increase the dosage so that I could feel better. She wrote me a prescription for liquid Lexapro (since I am so sensitive to meds). She wanted me to gradually increase it until I got to 10mg in hopes that I would feel better. Needless to say, when I increase the med just a bit I feel soooo much worse in the mornings! I take Lexapro at nite before bed. I tried 5.5mg for a week, and then 6 mg for about 3 nites, and went to 6.5 mg and noticed that I felt so jittery, on edge, tired, and much more anxious! :(
I also take Valium (as needed) - 1/4 of 2mg tablet. My doc is skeptical about trying me on other meds, because I am so sensitive to meds. I tried 5 anxiety meds before finding that Lexapro worked. When I started Lexapro, I noticed within a week I felt a lot better and within 2 weeks I was feeling great, and by a month I was fabulous! ;)
I am frustrated because the depression and anxiety is still present, and I need a higher dosage-according to my doc, but I am not tolerating the higher dosage well at all! :(
This morning I felt so wirey after I took the 6mg last nite! :?
My doctor is probably not going to know what to tell me at this point, but we may have to go another route - as far as trying another med.
She did tell me that 10mg was probably what I needed in order to feel better, but I can't seem to get there! The anxiety is worse when I increase it.
I am very frustrated, and just wanting to feel better!

Took me the full 8 weeks to feel ok on Lexapro. I felt so crappy in the mornings and then I would cry and feel horrible during the day, but eventually I started to feel better. I took Klonopin at night for the 8 weeks too. I called my psych every day and he kept telling me to hang in there. I did and it's been 3 years and I feel great on just 10mg. of Lexapro, no Klonopin. Just hang in there for at least 8 weeks.
