Last winter I had the scariest, weirdest feeling in my throat. I was totally fine one minute watching TV with my kids. I was eating dry, shredded wheat-after I swallowed I had the feeling that something was stuck in my throat! I kept drinking water but it was still there. Well, I started freaking and kept freaking for hours. I let my fears and panic get the best of me and after going to an ENT (I had no idea who to go for this, I was perfectly fine up until that one point) he said I had acid reflux and gave me meds. I hate meds, and feel that they do more harm than good in the long run...BUT, if I really need them, I do. Anyways, I ended up getting an endoscopy and the doctor told me to get off any medications (for reflux) b/c I definitely don't have reflux. They took 3 biopsies and he said he thought it was from anxiety. (globus histericus??). I realize I majorly freaked myself out (people didn't help...a neighbor said her husband had that feeling when he was diagnosed with hodgkins....CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!!) I was so bad, I couldn't sleep, eat, all to be told by my GP that she thinks I injured my throat eating the dry shredded wheat! (the gastro doctor said that wasn't such a good idea to eat it without water or something). So, I slowly began to tell myself I was okay, but it was hard. I noticed now whenever I feel tense or something, I start to feel chokey and I swallow a lot, weird.

Ok, here's a safe natural way to treat/cure acid reflex:

2 Tablespoons of Apple Cider Vineger (natural unfiltered)
1/4 Teespoon of Baking soda
8oz of water

Mix and drink twice a day on any empty stomach.

You will not believe how well this works!

I had GERDs for over a year and tried every prescription medication available but it just kept coming back.

I heard about this remedy for a long time but just thought it was too simple to work, boy was I wrong!

It's all natural and it can not hurt you. Just take a deep breath (without smelling it) then drink it down fast.

Engine,

Globus Hystericus is a subjective symptom rather than something they can see with endoscopy. It's usually diagnosed with your history and physical or when the doctor has ruled everything else out. It's interesting that you started with these symptoms after your friend had bypass surgery. With your given history of reflux coupled with the anxiety of a friend's medical status, globus hystericus isn't out of the realm of possibilities. Update us when you talk to the doctor! :)

I've had reflux to where my stomach just wouldn't stop pushing acid into my mouth. It was to the point where I had a literal mouthful every 45 seconds, and swallowing didn't help.

I attributed it to soda, alcohol, and number 1, anxiety.

I have less and less as I progress through the program.

Yeah, I too find it interesting that this sensation started after my friends issue.

Like I said, the diganoses of Reflux was made in Dec '07 with this feeling in Jan. '08. Before this I do not recall ever having reflux, I do recall occasional heart burn, normally to many chocolate chip cookies at x-mas dinner.

The sensation is weird, but I will see what comes of it. To be honest, yesterday was a verbally quiet day for me and I do not recall having it much while today I was active on the phone and with my son and I started to feel it later in the day.

Still wondering if it is not something with my throat.

1 wk to go for Endo!

I too have acid reflux and the doctor says it is from anxiety. My therapist says when you are stressed your body keeps churning acid over and over. I was diagnosed about 2 months ago and do feel better, but I would tell you to absolutely stay away from chocolate, any type soda, orange juice and anything with caffine. I am a chocoholic and once I stopped eating chocloate and saw my anxiety was getting better, I do not feel the acid as much, I also eat very little at a time, I have 8 small meals a day. I hope this helps acid reflux is a horrible feeling, made me think I was having a heart attack, they checked my heart and I am fine.

I honestly have no idea if what I feel is reflux. I could be wrong, but hope that I am not.

I realize things can start suddenly, yet be brewing for quite sometime. I just think the feeling is to inconsistent, however, maybe it really is and that is why I have the burning behind my breastbone, but I have been on Prevacid for over a month now, so I would expect a lot of the reflux to be getting under control.

This time next week maybe I'll know more.

Hey gang,

Here's links dealing with acid reflux.

<A HREF="http://naturally-stop-acid-reflux.com/b ... eart-burn/" TARGET=_blank>http://naturally-stop-acid-reflux.com/b ... t-burn/</A>

I was diagnosed in August 2006 with LPR. It's a long word which means I have larynx reflux. It had been pretty under control until a month ago. My ENT told me it was irritated...due to stress @ work .

I have the throat clearing and the lump in the throat/swallowing problem sensation.

I was very surprised to read here about a reflux-anxiety connection. I have mild asthma and there was/is an asthma-reflux conncection. (Not just with me but with many asthmatics.)

I am going Tuesday for an upper endoscopy, not for the relux per se. I have been experiencing stomach pains, mostly on the right side. I saw the gastro yesterday and she is leaning toward the pains being related to stress and/or reflux. Thankfully nothing appears to be a major worry.

Hi, I found this forum answering to fischee. years ago I was diagnosed with reflux too. It was constant burning. i had lost so much weight. had an endoscopy, tests, etc. I was taking prilocec, before it was over the counter. Two more medicines later I decided to try chinese herbs and acupuncture. The doctor said it was pure stress. I took the herbs for about a month. They tasted horrible but they were so effective. I felt good and with more energy for the first time in months. Since you are not supposed to be on herbs for long periods of time, i had to stop.
I would recommend to anybody to try (they are harmless) and keep listening to the cds. i can't think of a better combination to combat stress and regain control of your life.
My best wishes to all,

There has been great response in this forum and I even felt funny bringing it.

I have said it somewhere in this forum, that I person at work had two different issues he experienced before going in for bypass surgery and about a week or two after that I developed both symptoms per se.

In December they said I had reflux, everything else is a bonus. They said through the Upper GI I had an abnormal filling defect, which they think might just be a piece of food.

We'll see! :-)
