EARTHQUAKE
Growing up in Pennsylvania I went thru many summers with tornado warnings and horrible thunder storms and when I moved to Calif. I went thru the earthquakes here. Don't know which is worse. With the earthquakes we have no warning ahead of time so I don't get the anticipatory anxiety and fear I used to when the tornado warnings went out, but during those few seconds of a big quake I think I literally stopped breathing. It's a frightening feeling when you're not used to them.
I am in South Elgin, Illinois. My husband and I were up at that time, he was getting ready in the bathroom and I was snug in bed cuddling with the dogs still and nothing. My sister lives in Spring Grove Illinois; she was lounging in bed and her husband was also getting ready for work but they both felt it. Their foster dog got up and trotted out of their bedroom right before it though while their other 2 dogs slept through it. My step daughter at college is in Carbondale, Illinois (southern tip of Illinois) and she apparently slept through it. her boyfriend felt it. No damage where they are at though.
We had one several years back, a smaller one. We had parrots at the time and they both flapped like crazy for a few minutes. We went downstairs to check on them and the house rumbled and shook. It was in the wee AM hour so I know it was not the UPS truck, but on the 6am news was confirmed to be a quake.

I live in Florida, never been in an earthquake and hope never to travel anywhere where there is one. We have hurricanes and tornados and I can handle the hurricane still haven't had to go through a tornado thank God! I think that would freak me out to go through an earthquake with the whole house moving. Congrats to all that have gone through this and can tell everyone that your ok and it was fine. Hopefully that will help others with their anxiety!

We felt it here in good old Louisville KY! And all I can say is...I went to bed one night and woke up having survived and earthquake. I never would have ever thought about worrying about an earthquake...and here i am all through it safe and sound anyway.
It was nuts...shook the bed all over the place and knocked a picture off a wall. We had an aftershock here as well. I feel kind of good being able to say I experienced that.
