I wonder if you were a diabetic you would "try to do without" your meds? Meds take some time to get into your system, so you could have residual good feelings from previous med. Each time I stopped, I found I cound not manage. Now I just accept that there are brain chemicals that I need, and take my meds. Also, my doctor is excellent and really listens to my responses to meds, including any side effects, and so on.

I have been on Effexor for 10 years now. I weaned off once five years ago. It took along time to wean. Just be sure you really have to have it because it is so hard to wean off from. I am trying to wean again without success so far. Good luck to you.

Reen38, I wish you the very best in whatever you decide to do with your meds. I find it can be very confusing -- knowing what to do. Try to find a doctor that will work with you on this. I know withdrawal can be awful--with stomach cramps, upset stomach, feelings of panic, sweating, headaches, and wanting to make the best choice. Good luck to you.

I was put on effexor and I haven't had any bad side effects. I am a little more tired than I used to be, but I guess that is okay. I have heard a lot of positive things about effexor, so you shouldn't worry about taking it.

rev. marie, I have an excellent doctor...in fact he was involved in the making of this program...so I am very blessed in that department :)
One side effect I have noticed coming off is that I have been having some crazy dreams...just the most bizzare stuff...lol.

I have also heard alot of positive things about effexor, but I still cant turn off the "medicine fear". I guess Im afraid I will have some crazy reaction. I tried paxil after my second child was born several years ago and it really did a number on me...Im talking psychedellic stuff...everything had a wierd tint to it, I felt like I was having an out of body experience. It scared the crap outta me.
I am going to continue to see where this goes as far as not taking anything and hopefully, if I can keep a positive attitude, I wont need to take anything on a regular basis.

Yeah I was terrified to start medications too. When I first started I was put on lexapro and I got this weird, crazy thought in my head that I was going to lose control and hurt myself or someone else. It was really scary. Since then I went through 6 other medications, including Xanax, which I won't take. I am still afraid of that for some reason.

I am pretty satisfied with the effexor so far though. Except for the fatigue, but that should go away once I have been on it for a while, I hope. And I do get some weird dreams now since being on it.

I hope not taking any medications works out for you. Stay strong and keep positive!
