back and head sensations
Hi all,
I have been having this "pulling" or rising and falling sensation in the back of my body on/off for months. the doctors say it is related to anxiety but i want to know medically how that is? I am currently on week 8 of the program and i am frustrated that these symptoms have returned. my back is also very tense, but it feels like i am sometimes floating on a boat in a very slow fashion. can anyone give me a chemical or medical answer related to anxiety?

LMM - The adrenal glands are very powerful.  When they secrete adrenalin you will feel sensations all over your body and if you secrete enough of it you will feel the effects of it for days - even after your anxiety attack is over.  IT IS NOTHING TO FEAR!!!!  It can not hurt you at all.  So welcome it in.  It's annoying as all get out, I know, but that's the worst it can do - is be annoying.  Feeling it in the head and neck is very common.  Adrenalin can create so much tension that we often feel "we must have something else wrong with us".  But we don't.  It's just adrenalin.
Start welcoming it in. The more you resist it the more adrenalin you squirt and the longer it stays (but it is still harmless). When you welcome anxiety, when you welcome all sensations they begin to subside. Eventually you will notice that when you have an anxious moment it doesn't last as long because you are now making it OK to have. You don't squirt all that adrenalin with your resistance. Practice. Use every opportunity to use your tools.
Your breath is very important. Use your calm breathing. Then get busy with your day. Talk soothing to yourself. Make it OK to feel anxiety. You'll see a major difference.

thanks for the response, i appreciate the detail.  Are you the doctor that signed on the bottom of the email?  i really understood your response, and i dont' want to sound unappreciateive, but your email address link says you are an administrative assistant. did you just mean that only that last quote was from that Dr. Liebgold?

Yes, i have read through more of them and now i do notice.  anyway, you seem very knowledgable, so i appreciate it.  i am the type of person who needs to know the medical reason, even if the symptoms are from anxiety.  i am, addmittedly still scared of the falling /rising sensation, mainly because it feels out-of-control to me.  the sensation also seemed to return after i told myself it was gone for good. Maybe my subconscious is being subversive and trying to challenge me and my new skills?  is that true?  also, isn't there a brain chemistry that is altered by constant anxiety or obsessive thinking?

When you start to welcome those sensations in they will decrease in intensity and eventually, in time and perseverence on your part, they will go away.  You need to practice making it OK to have these sensations.  In other words, if you have them, fine.  If you don't, that's fine, too.  Either way needs to be OK with you.  Now that you know they won't hurt you, why should it matter if you have those feelings or not.
You can change your brain chemistry by how you talk to yourself, how you react or underreact. Your attitude toward something is everything. Acceptance vs. resistance. When you resist you hurt. When you accept there is peace. You can change that chemistry. Keep going. Do not give up. You can cure from this.

yes, Boon seems to have a handle on this. What kind of sensations did you have? Because i guess i am still not 100% convinced that my pulling/rising/falling sensation in the back of my body is from anxiety. Like today i feel like i am walking on a water bed. At times, i am convinced, but when i have a bad night or day, i still get scared adn i will be trying to do what Boon is suggesting. My Stress coach says a similiar thing.
