spacey can't think

rebka, That is one of my symptoms. I felt like I was in a fog, aware of everybody around me, but not really participating. I just started to not resist the feeling of spaciness and it has gone away. When it does pop up every once in a while, I just feel it, I don't resist it. I let go of the resistance to resist - make sense?

That spacey feeling was and sometimes still is one of my worst symptoms. I am so much better than I was, but even so, there are times I get the spacey feeling. It's like being a little drunk...you feel like you aren't walking or talking quite right, you can't think very clearly. Oh ya!
I got that feeling several times a day and sometimes all day before I got better. Now it hits me mostly when I go to the mall. I will be fine until I start walking through the mall. All the people, the store windows, the noise, the smells, it all gets to me. What I do to stop it is immediately let it be there. I don't try to fight it. Second, I will pick a store (like a shoe store) and look at all the shoes individually. Jewelry works, anything that I would love to have and can think about individually works. It only takes 2 or 3 minutes and before I know it the spacey feeling is gone.
I take Effexor and Wellbutrin and still get this once and awhile. It seems like its from an overload of stimulation. If I just concentrate on something else, it goes away.

i seem to be forgetful not remembering things from previous days, also seems like things that were familiar are not anymore having trouble retriving infomation things that use to come easily to me do not any more. i feel like i am becoming dumber. please help i have been struggling with anxiety for years but these feelings scare me does anyone else expience this thank you, alex

Meds help stop this feeling to some extent, but it is your thinking that causes it. From what I have seen meds help but they are NOT a cure. Your thinking causes anxiety (the what if's) and panic (further what if's). I have found that meds are a help, talk therapy (with a psychologist), and self study all contribute to overcoming most of the problems. Notice I said MOST of the problems? For me at least I know that I will have a spacey feeling one week, an overwhelming feeling of doom another week. This will go on the rest of my life. I will have to constantly keep on top of these feelings and my thinking. I know other people who have not had any symptoms for 20+ years! It all depends on your particular history and the reasons for your anxiety and panic. I have reasons which started in babyhood and continued most of my life.
One other thing I should mention is CHANGE. A person sometimes has to make life changes in order to improve their symptoms. It could be a change in job, home, marriage, etc. but once you know that something is causing you extreme anxiety you must be willing to change your way of dealing with it, or change it.
This is not an exact science. Each person is different, but exhibits similar symptoms. Each person has different problems, etc.
