Hi to all! I am new here. I have been on Paxil 6 years and it was wonderful, but it no longer works. I was pushed up to a high dose but it has been horrible and I have been tapering off for months. I am down to 10mgs and a mess...
horrible anxiety, racing throughts, etc etc.
My dr wants me to start on 5 mgs of Lexapro while still taking Paxil (10mgs) and taper on one and off the other.
I AM TERRIFIED!
Has anyone else done this? How did you do it? How did it go?
Oh he also gave me Klonopin but I have been too scared to try that too. I have taken a Xanax here and there during Paxil W/D but that is it.
Thanks so much...
Dawn
Anyone switch from Paxil to Lexapro?
I made the switch from Paxil to Lexapro. Although Lexapro tend to work it only helped me for a short time (First 3 months). I have decided to taper off of SSRI's completely. Medicine is not the way out of anxiety it my eyes it just prolongs it. I am going to tackle this with exercise, CBT, diet, and the program.
Sorry, if this is not what you want to hear but everyones body is different and SSRI's specially Lexapro work for many people so I wish you the best of luck.

This is my first time on this web site I am just starting the program, but two weeks ago I had an awful panic attack. Not knowing what was happening to me, I went to the emergency room. They gave me a sleeping pill which made me sleep for a day and a half. Needless to say, I did not fill that prescription. After numerous trips to 3 different doctors, I had several prescriptions all of which I was afraid to take, because I was convinced the first one gave me the panic attack and I didn't want to have another one. Finally I went to the doctor again this past Thursday after two days of not being able to go to work. He said,"We have to get you better. Take the Clonazepam.( If this is what you were prescribed. I checked the spelling on my medication.)" I did and it worked great the first time. If anything, I was a little too relaxed. For the first time in three weeks I am getting things done. I would say, "Take it." I felt better almost right away. I hope you will too. I have also just started the program and I think I am going to really like that too. Good Luck!

We have to remember what works for one person does not necessarily work for someone else since our body chemistries vary.
I was on Paxil from 1996 to 2004(?). I switched to Lexapro because I was looking for something that did not contribute to weight gain. My doctor said Lexapro was a sister drug to Paxil and there are no side effects to the switch. Early 2007 I began to break through the Lexapro. My doctor wanted to up the dose but I figured since I was breaking through I might as well break off. With the help of an alternative medicine practitioner I have been off main-stream meds since Thanksgiving 2007.
I have had a stressful year this year and every once in a while think that I need to go back to main stream but this program helps me understand that I am not only what I eat but what I think as well.
