Ok Shif.
Here's the start of a new thread.
I think I eat way too much meat. I haven't clicked on the links yet in your previous post, but I know I need to change the way I eat. I have always been interested in the vegetarian diet, but I like meat ! LOL It seems that the veg. diet doesn't provide enough as far as vitamins and minerals go. (That's just my old way of thinking though...) I don't know if I could cut out meat entirely (especially if I smell bacon cooking LOL.....). I will click on the links in the previous post and get some ideas. Have you pretty much always been a vegetarian ? Do you eat eggs, cheese and drink milk ? Or are you vegan ?
ok Shif !
Hey Man,
You may eat too much meat, if you are eating it every day and/or in large quantities. You can probably google all kinds of stuff about meat consumption. It is wise to cut it down, for sure.
I never thought I could give up meat myself, but as I got older and my cholesterol wasn't changing I just made up my mind one day - gosh I'm thinking now that it was over 9 years ago - to just stop cold "turnip" so to speak LOL. I have never looked back, I never crave it, never eat it on Thanksgiving or any major holiday, I just have no desire for meat, poultry or seafood of any kind.
I am not 100% vegan - I have had occasional dairy, but not much, plus I use honey - maybe I'm a beegan, LOL.
Good for you for looking into this. Meat has a lot of "stuff" that is not conducive to a healthy lifestyle, especially the way it is raised and fed, and especially in the amounts it is eaten.
If you are eating fruits, veggies and plant foods you are getting the best source of nutrients known to man. Meat and dairy has no fiber and little vitamins, plus carnivores in the wild naturally eat organ meats, Western folks usually eat muscle meats that are fairly void of nutrition.
You do not have to give up meat entirely, you can have it a couple of times a week. I think once you get accustomed to eating tubers, squash, beans, rice, veggies, salads, fruits, fruit smoothies, etc. you'll enjoy it so much you won't desire the meat as often.
There's a ton of articles and info on www.vegsource.com and also that McDougall site I posted in the other thread - here it is again. www.drmcdougall.com
By the way, I don't agree with a lot of the politics on vegsource, but it's a great source for dietary info.
I hope I have answered your questions and please send any more my way!
