Hi,
I have been taking a beta blocker ( Lopressor 12.5mg) once a day for over a month now. It was prescribed for for a skippy/ fluttering heart beat. I must stress the fact that I do NOT have a fast heart rate during these episodes. It simply begins to flutter and feels like it is going to hop out of me.
My cardiologist felt that a beta blocker would be beneficial in relieving these skipped beats.
However, I always seem to have ( what I call ) break though flutters even on the medication.

Is any one currently taking a beta blocker for the similar problem and if so, do still experience these skipped beats?
They are frustrating and frightening and have the power to stop me in my tracts.
I have tried everything to help elevate them but no luck. I am open for your advice and help.

God bless,
Kim

Hi Kim Doc,
I have also been on a betablocker for palpitations. Have been taking it for about 6-7 months now. One thing I have learned is that doctors will not change the strength of any drug too quickly these days. My Dr. has had me on the same strength during this whole time. It seems to decrease the severity of the problem but does not completely alleviate all symptoms. Exercise, plenty of good rest, and getting rid of the caffine in addition to the relaxation CD has helped as much or more than the medication for me! Stick with this program, it will work...give it time/effort. You will not be disappointed. Joe C

Kim Doc:
I was on a Beta Blocker for about a month and half. The side effects from this medication Torpol(but I had the generic kind of this medication), it had me very tired, I mean like all of the time. The dr said I needed for heart pap and a irregular heartbeat. I feel the heart paps and irregular heartbeat were from the panic/anxiety attacks.

But I agree with Joe C, with help from reading all the books, relaxation CD, going to the online chat here on this site and having support family and friends, I am doing much better now; however, I still feel like I need to get this program.

Do I feel the meds help me? yes, but I think with the other things that I did to change my life helped even more.

Hi Joe and Madimac,
Thank you for your kind words. I am happy to know that I am not alone. I thought maybe the med was not working. I have to agree with you. It does help with the severity of them but does not totally eliminate them. Unfortunately I have not been able to purchase th program because of financial issues. I do have a relaxation CD I use and it seems to help. I just need to keep it in the back of my head, that these palpitations are nothing serious and learn to live with them.

I don't drink anything with caffeine so I am certain these are related to stress and anxiety. You know it is a vicious circle.
You get palpitations, they cause anxiety and the anxiety in turn causes palpitations.
All I want is to feel normal again!

Sending a big hug to you,
Kim

Kim Doc,
Try to see if you can purchase the program on ebay. Also do you have the books t Lucinda wrote, from Panic to Power. It was the first book that I read and I said to myself, Wow, here is someone that knows what I am feeling. Just about everything I could relate to.

Remember having anxiety/panic attacks doesnt make you less of a person!!! You are an awesome person!!! You are never alone. I don't know how religious you are, but praying has helped tremendously for me. I went to the library and got every book that I could check out about anxiety/panic attacks, but I also got books on positive thinking, eating better, etc..We hope this helps. If I can ever help in anyway, please send me a private message. Take care.

Wow, I have the heart flutters and have had them for 16 years. I was told they are called PVC's. My Cardiologist also but me on Metoprolol 50 mgs to help with High Blood Pressure and the PVC's. They do help but I still have them every now and then. I have changed my diet as well and yall are right... the Anxiety and Panic cause mine to be worse but I know i control my thoughts and sometimes my thoughts are all negitive. So, glad to know I am not alone here. Thanks so much for being a suoort to me.

I am interested in knowing whether the Beta Blocker helped with your anxiety. Theoretically it is supposed to block the response of epinephrine and norepinephrine.
