Hi, I am new. I have a med phobia when I'm having anxiety. The doctor prescbed Paxil and I can't take it. The thought of taking it gives me a panic attack. It is so silly...but here I am trying to be strong. Reading the side effects just make me run....Any advice? Thanks!

Hi, Linette,

I am not on any meds even though my therapist thinks I may be a candidate for them. I don't really want to take any if I can help it. Do you think they'll ease your anxiety? Perhaps you can take 1/2 dose to see what the reaction is. Did you read the post about coming off of paxil. That might help. You signed out of the chat room really quick is everything okay? Take care.

Don't be too scared about meds, even Lucinda says some people need to be on them. I know I do. I'm on 6 different meds and I would be dead without them. SO maybe give them a try and see what happens. You can always go off them if they don't work but it's worth it to give the meds a chance. Let us know what you're thinking. Jody

Hi, I have been on Paxil now for 10 years and it has worked wonders for me. I was able to drive again and so much more. Now I know that everyone reacts differently to meds, but I would have been lost without it. Feel free to PM me if you need to.

Hey there ~

I take 10mg for depression daily. I found that starting on a baby dose [5mg daily]helped cut down on the side effects when I first started because I am very VERY sensitive to any kind of medication.

I would talk it over with your Dr. There's nothing to be afraid of, although I know it's hard. If it's going to help you out in the end it's definitely worth it. If it gives you room to breathe & concentrate on learning the skills, why not? It doesn't have to be a permanent thing. Try to remain positive ~ you can do it!

Take care.

Hun, your doctor wouldn't give them to you if he thought something would go wrong.. Med really does help, I remember when I first started with anxiety and I was put on paxil and it really helped me to deal with it cause at the time it was so new and I didn't know how to cope with it so paxil really helped that and I finally found coping skills to work with it without meds and then I ended up just getting off the paxil after I could manage my anxiety on my own, hun you really have nothing to lose.

I was on Paxil on and off for about 7 years. The only side effect I had at the beginning was tremors which went away.Sexual side effects and weight gain came into part eventually.Everyone is different.Paxil changed my life for the better but I gained alot of weight and decided to get off.I am now on Wellbutrin.Give it a chance.Pay attention to your body, educate yourself, and stay in contact with your Dr.Take care :)
