I weaned myself off my celexa and could not handle the detox that started three days after i quit....i had to start up again and am now on 30 as opposed to 20 mg....i was throwing up, dizzy, getting shocking sensations, and a day later i started feeling doomed and suicidal and i read on the web that this is common and that dr.s often misdiagnose these as a recurrence of symptoms and put you on a higher dosage...this is what happened. I have been on celexa for two years almost and I am scared i will never be able to get off at this point...i was told it was non addictive...and that the detox was minimal...i still do not feel back to normal and it has been almost two weeks. I have not felt this bad in years. I just ordered this program...i have to beat this.
i want to take an herbal remedy and get through this on my own...i am so scared i am trapped into taking meds forever. the detox was too intense

Maybe because you weaned yourself off the celexa, as opposed to following doctor's orders, you caused the withdrawal symptoms. However, from what I've heard, it's no piece of cake whether you do it yourself or not. Not everyone has a problem coming off of anti-depressants, but I've heard more horror stories than not.

I have never met a doctor that said these anti-depressants WERE addictive, yet there's nothing I've seen or heard to support this. And I have never met a doctor that said it was possible to beat this thing WITHOUT medications, yet we know it to be so true. (I'm sure there's doctors out there that will say anti-depressants are addictive and that you can beat this without meds, I just haven't met one! )

If you really feel you can do this without medications, then perhaps it's time to give it a try. The meds will be there to fall back on if you're not ready just yet. I wouldn't suggest trying to wean yourself off of these meds. That's what we pay doctors for and after all, they're the ones that got you on it, let them do the work to get you off. You're only "trapped" into taking meds forever if you believe you are.

Good luck with the program!! It has the potential to make a HUGE difference in your life. Actually, it gives YOU the power and tools to make the difference.

HI paperheart,
what a cute handle. i too had the same experience as you coming off meds exept mine took a little longer. i lasted about 6 mos. i worked the program and did very good for awhile then i slid back in the mud. but i too should have worked with my dr. i may have been more successful. at any rate im back on my meds. too,and beat myself up about it for quite sometime. but now im ok with it and will work the program backwards and forwards and try again next year(with my drs. help this time). take care

Hi i am Ryan from New York. As you all know there is a famous saying "Prevention is better than cure". This discussion purely points out to this proverb. Its better to not to consume alcohol rather than going for medication after that. In this world alcoholism is a serious threat to the whole community.
