Over the weekend found myself really negative not exactly sure why but I just was. I am nearly half way through the program for the second time. I have really embraced journaling and planned worry time/problem solving.
So it occured to me, during my planned worry/action planning time regarding my negativity, why not make a tape of self affirmations/positive statements about myself. This was a little difficult given that I was particularly negative.
Last year I read the book "What to say when you talk to your self" by Shad Helmsetter, PHD and really liked it. He had some really good self talk affirmations which I could relate to.
I wrote a few notes and read some of his affirmations as well as some positive self talk I had come up with into a little tape recorder. The tape is about a half hour long.
What I found when I started is that I was very monotoned reading these affirmations but by the time I was done, my tone of voice was strong and confident. I felt really upbeat and positive. I felt so empowered.
I listen to the tape 3 times a day. Once in am , the afternoon and the evening. I have only been doing this since the weekend but I am really surprised at how good I am feeling about myself. I seem to be less obessessive and negative. When I feel the negative junk starting, I am now countering with the positive self talk that I have recorded. It seems to becoming more automatic. I am feeling more confident and self assured.
I wanted to share this as maybe it might help someone else. So far, Thank God, it seems to be working for me. Take care and God Bless.
A helpful suggestion...
