I was just wondering if anyone has any tips on overcoming the fear of elevators, planes and riding passenger in vehicles in general. The elevator one is a big one for me. I really want to get passed the fear of being trapped and the thought of "what if it breaks down and i'm stuck in here"...I was thinking about trying hypnosis or some other supplemental books to this program... anyone have any success stories or anything work for them...if you know of something it would be much appreciated.

Try the book "Freedom from Fear by Dr. Howard Leibgold" It is excellent!! and explains step by step what to do to expose yourself safely.

Hi Cory2k-

I got my book at a bookstore, for about $10. He also has a website www.angelnet.com and after I found out that I could connect his info to success, I bought his CD/DVD and workbook home course. (He teaches/used to teach in the San Francisco area).

I just was camping with my family last weekend, and I could feel my anxiety start to rachet up a bit, and I remembered some ways to shut off the emotional part of the brain and it worked like a charm. Doing math problems in the woods seems silly, but I did that for a while and the rest of the week I had NO anxiety. It just shut it down.

The man who wrote that book also had phobias of being closed in, and traveling, etc. so he is well versed in what he did to train himself out of it.

Have a great day!

Hey Terri,

Thanks so much for your help. I appreciate it.
I'm going to try the "freedom from fear" book before the program because I'm still doing Lucinda's program which is helping but I kind of need something a little more specific to fear of elevators or something so maybe the "freedom from fear" book will do the trick for now. (fingers crossed)

Thanks again,

Cory.

Hi Cory

This was my biggest fear and I think it was because I was stuck in a very small elevator for 2.5 hours with 8 other squashed people. Sure I felt a little anxiety when we were in there but I am only realising now (6 years after the incident)I was fine until I looked back and thought all the negatives.

"What if" thoughts are sooooo negative. All the time I was thinking "What if I get stuck again". What you are subconsciously doing is SCARING YOURSELF.. Change the What if thoughts to "So what if" thoughts..

So what if I get stuck in an elevator, SO-What !! .... Yes, you may feel a little anxious but that is ok. You know that it's your negative thoughts trying to scare you making you feel anxiety. Your brain acts on those thoughts feeding your body adrenaline and making your heart pound for no phyiscal reason.

Remember it is 90% thoughts and only 10% environment that determine the way you feel..

Once I understood that being in control is not being in control all the time I was on the road to recovery !!
