Stress Center Peer Support

Hey Dragon, I think I did fairly good all things considering. I didn't do very well during the day leading up to the nighttime. I even took a xanax, although I only take 1/4 of one so really don't know how good that does. Most of it was anticipation. Thankfully for us all, the first round didn't materialize like they thought. During the night however, that was pretty bad wasn't it? I think they said the confirmed 5 tornadoes now. I'm not sure why I woke up but I woke about 1/2 hour before it hit the Fort Worth area. I was watching the news and saw rotation to the north of me and to the south of me and I was thinking I was in between so probably be ok. I had to quit watching at that point in fear a rotation marker would show up near where I was or on the way lol.

It was really something though. I got dressed and went into the livingroom. The lights were out for the most part and sat there waiting for the time to pass. There wasn't a lot of thunder so actually it was pretty quiet. The lights flickered off briefly one time but that was it. Fortunately if there was anything good about those storms it was that they were fast movers so left the area quickly.

All in all I still hate em! lol.

I just had to respond to this subject. I grew up in a household, when thuderstorms & bad weater occured it was like everything "stopped." My dad had been in the military before he and my mom were married and had seen horrible weather conditions in places over seas. When my brother & I were young and there was a threat of bad weather they would make us turn off and unplug EVERYTHING. I think you are supposed to be away from elctronics, however, all we were allowed to do was pretty much sit & listen to the storms. My grandmothers (both of them) were also terrified of storms which in turn was passed down to me. My stomach would start hurting and I would get severely anxious & nauseous at the thought of thunder, lightning & heavy rain. As I got older I then was terrified to drive in rain and storms. Well as time passed and I had my own daughter, I didn't want her to be afraid to the point I had been. Therefore, when bad weather approaches I try not to make everything "stop" in our household. Most of the time we will leave a television or radio on if possible to drown out the noise. I still from time to time get nervous driving in bad weather, however, prayer works wonders. I also try to make it home if possible if their is a bad weather threat & I always keep in mind that I can try to pull safely off of the road if I have to until hard rain or storms subside. These things have helped me cope a little better.

Thanks Silver for the reply. I have learned a ton in the last 8 weeks. I like the suggestion of everything not stopping just because the weather. Food for thought.
