Hi Mike,
I can understand, that the fear of hurricaines is very real. I am glad that you are receiving help from Lexapro and that all seems well with that now. However, I do not understand what a lot people expect from any program. There is clearly no silver bullet, and many get the impression that the program is what will cure them.
It is not the cure, but it is a way to learn about the disorders and teaches you to develop skills to overcome your fears, what ever they maybe, one moment at a time.
I became aware that I would probably never be able to do the work I did in the past, and I am currently receiving long term disability and struggling the process of getting SSD.
My loving wife saw how frustrated and depressed I was and still am about my situation, and she did not know how to help me. She ran out and ordered this program.
When it arrived, I was hesitant to even open the box, then after 4 days I opened it and I listened to the now famous relaxation tape. I was okay until it started getting to the end, and all it did was remind me of how great things used to be for me, and it threw me into a full blown pity party.
Hours later, I gathered my inner strength, and listened to all the stuff Lucinda and others were talking about, and it made me mad. I was sure my wife knew nothing about what I was going through, and how this junk only served to remind me of how miserable I should be feeling. I was determine to return this box of junk that we were going to pay so much for.
Quite honestly, my first experience, as you have now read was not a good thing. I decided to call, what I thought, was a scam outfit and return this junk. However, the young lady that finally responded to my call, could tell I had closed my mind from the outset, and could also tell that I was giving up on life because I was stuck in my past and how good I had it. Her emotional pleas for me and my wife, really touched me, and I thought, what the heck, I will try it again, but as far as the relaxation tape, that is not for me. I'll find my own way to relax, thank you very much.
After doing the entire DVD presentations, and reviewing all the notes I took, I was convinced that this program would help Guide and teach me things to help me focus a lot more on the positive and less on what used to be. Guess what? My active participation in this forum, and studies re-taught me things that I already knew, and several things I didn't know.
My faith in God and this program are being restored. I am grateful that young lady took the time to hear me out and expressed her concerns, that I felt compelled to give this another shot, and I am not sorry for it.
If you haven't given this program a fair shot, it may be because your expectations were a bit unrealistic. There is no silver bullet, the answer lays inside of you. The program helps you recognize and understand this through cognitive behavioral studies and therapies, that you do at your own pace, and at whatever pace you want or need to.
In the end, the decision of what you do to help yourself or not, doesn't affect anyone here, but it may help you if you decide to follow through and continue studying and learning more about yourself so that you can learn to cope with your fears, whatever they may be.
I will pray for you, if that is okay with you, and I will say nothing more about this.
