I was going to post this very question today. I'm glad you asked because I've been wondering if there is a pattern to this whole thing.
I'm a 32 year old female. My first attack, one that I couldn't control that is, was at the age of 30. I had minor attacks before I just didn't know what they were. I was also able to control them.
Go figure...
Betsy your theory seems to make sense to me.

Hello Everyone!
I am 20 years old now and I live in Miami, Fl. My first problems with anxiety/depression came at age 10 (10 years ago, probably steming from the multiple moves my family made and the culture changes that went along with them). It's nice to meet you all =)
OK...here's the edited part that you ask for later on. My sister (18 years old) is struggling with the same thing, and I believe now posthumously, that my father had it as well. I believe that you can inherit the susceptablity towards anxiety/depression, but that your environment is a great factor in its development as well. So there you go =)

Female, age 33, anxiety/panic attacks surfaced when I was 22-23. WOW-it does seem that 22-23 is a common age for this to surface...Hmmm, wonder why? The analytical person I am wants to know why <IMG SRC="

Thanks for asking...I've been wondering the same thing. I am a 32 year old mother of three and started having real problems with anxiety about 3 years ago. Now that I am in the program, I am realizing that I've had this for awhile but it definitely got worse in the past few years.
Hope all goes well for you and God Bless

Are you in your 20's, 30's, 40's, a baby boomer, or a oldster? It would be interesting to know who might be the oldest (never too old to change) or the youngest (anxiety knows no age).
Your gender? It seems as if there are more woman than men on this forum.
I'm female. My age group? You go first. <IMG SRC="http://bbs.stresscenter.com/ubb/wink.gif">

What a good question! I'm 32 and female.
There seems to be many of us who are in our
early thirties. I've had anxiety trouble my
entire life. In my twenties, however, more life events happened to make it a bit more difficult. I don't believe I was old enough to know that I could work on it until I was in my late twenties.
good morning everyone! <IMG SRC="

I feel like it has taken over my 20's...I have struggled and tried very hard to overcome this. Sometimes I have. Sometimes it creeps right back in again...Hope everyone has a great day!!

Hi everyone! I'm a 41 year old female, single, and my panic attacks started at age 27 while I was a graduate student. As a child I was always nervous in social situations and performance situations. As for the family connection -- as my doctor said -- I'm loaded for bear on this one! Mom's very sensitive, grandmother took "nerve pills," aunts on both sides suffering from anxiety and depression, great-grandmother suffered from anxiety and depression, and two cousins suffering from panic attacks. I guess its safe to say that I believe in some type of genetic/biological connection with this disorder! <IMG SRC="

Hi all,
I'm a 42 year old divorced female. Had my first panic attack around 22. Now realize I've had anxiety all my life, but many times
for years on end, there's been no problem with it. This round started two years ago when my body had a hormonal blowout (peri-menopause). My dad had terrible anxiety and my sister is so mentally ill with obsessive-compulsive disorder that she can hardly function. So, I think you can inherit it, or have the tendency for it, and then develop it as you watch your parent live with it.
