Pressure Headaches
Thanks a bunch! I will definetly try this book. I did have a better day yesterday. My daughter had a birthday party and I had a lot of people were at my house. I tried to stop and breathe every time I started getting overwhelmed. I seem to get a lot worse when I have a lot to do in a short amount of time. It was a weared feeling to do this, but I know it was helping. I have been off work since Feb. and plan on going back in Aug.(I'm a teacher). It is a very demanding job. I don't want to get there and have to take a leave again. I am trying to prepare myself for that. Hopefully this book will give me more ideas as I also go thru the StressCenter.com program. You are a very helpful and positive person and it means a lot to get helpful advice from someone who understands. Thanks once again. I'm not sure if I am just replying to you or to everyone in general. I have ever been on anything like this before. Thanks a Million!
I will be out of town this weekend. This will be my first weekend at my lake house. We're always so busy. I am hoping I do ok. It's my first weekend there after starting the program. Most of the time when I get back, I feel so bad. I am hoping to be able to pace myself and use new steps this weekend. I will also have lots of company! My goal is to feel good on Monday and not be worse when I get home. I will check back in with all of you Monday. Thanks so much to all of you for the great advice this week. It has definetly encouraged me! Have a great weekend.

Hi everyone. I went out of town this weekend and didn't do as well as I would've like to. I ended up getting really stressed because I was having to do a lot for everyone that was there. I did my breathing when I could. I was not able to listen to my cd's or do my relaxation cd. Does anyone have any tips for when you can't do these things??? Thanks
Hi af-
I got a tip from a book that really helped me. It said when you are anxious and fretting, you are in the right side of your brain which is the squirting adrenaline side. To cut that off, you need to do a logical thinking activity. So, pick your favorite. Crosswords, sing a song, do push ups, yodel, do math problems in your head, etc. And it really works. A couple of weeks ago, I was camping and portaging our stuff (carrying it between lakes) in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area park in MN. You are remote with no communications. My in-laws were with us and they are in their 70s. It was real hot for up there, and we all hadn't done this in a while and it's HARD to carry stuff over hill and dale when it's 85+ degrees. Well, my FIL was huffing and puffing and I started to freak out wondering about his health and what if? blah blah blah. Not really an irrational fear by any means but an intrusive fear nontheless. So--the next time we had to stop and I had to wait for the group to get organized, I tried to make myself look around at the nature and really see as if for the first time, all the stuff that there is up there. And when I was walking with my packs, I did math tables. Like 1x1=1 1x2=2 and 2+1=3, 1x3=3 and 3=3=6. I tell you- my brain was so into doing the math that I truly almost put my foot down on top of a 2 ft. garter snake and I HATE snakes. I heard it rustle away and saw it as it moved and thought, "oh, a snake" 1x4=4...It was amazing. And I kept watching myself later in the day and even the week and that math just shut down the anxiety bug. It never came back.
In the book the author relates it to when you are nervous before a test and you have to pee every minute, but when the professor hands you the test and you start you are so focussed on the test that the rest of the world goes out the window. Or before you speak in public your heart is pounding, but when you finally get to start and get rolling, the fear goes away.
I hope that helps. Let me know if you want more info. about the book. I love it.

Thanks for the help. I have been trying to do some of the math problems in my head along with skills from the program. I have ordered the book and hope it is here soon. I have had a lot of pressure in the top of my head today. IT is so weired! But I do notice when I get busy doing or thinking something else, it seems to help. Also talking with you guys helps. You are the only ones I have that I don't feel stupid telling these things to. Hoping to have a better evening than day. Thanks!
