I umderstand too. I used to drink pretty frequently and this year I wasn't feeling well and had to go on antibiotics that absolutely did not allow alcohol for a couple of weeks. My anxiety started getting worse and now if I even try to have a few drinks the after effect is horrible. The next day I have major anxiety and trouble sleeping. I am worried that maybe the years of social drinking may have screwed up my system and that my sleeping problems and anxiety are now worse because of this.

Hi Celeron.
You don't get the hangovers or the panic attacks anymore, because you stopped drinking. Those are good reasons NOT to drink. Why do you feel like you need todrink? Is it because your friends are doing it? I hope not. That would not be a good reason to do anything.

I consider having a drink and abusing alcohol 2 seperate things...Some may see them the same and that is ok...Your "fear of having a drink" is really not directly related to alcohol...Whether you decide to never drink again, or to occasionally have a drink needs to be a decision based on what's best for you and what you want-not because if you do this, this will happen, and I will feel anxious, and my heart will race, etc...If those are your expectations of having a drink-guess what-you will not be dissapointed...
From a health related standpoint-We have found that light to moderate alcohol consumption (2 glasses of wine, or 2 beers, or 1 mixed drink)poses a great benefit to your cardiovascular system...Helps relax the coronary arteries and slow the progression of atherosclerosis...Not exactly sure, but findings are proving it...NOW PLEASE NOTE-there is a significant down turn in any positive health benefits the more you exceed those limits...Just something to think about...
Life is good, but God is great!

The problem I had with alcohol was I never drank because I enjoyed it, I drank because I enjoyed getting drunk, I never had 1 or 2, I had to drink until I was drunk or there was no point, it certainly wasn't for the pleasure of having a beer, because frankly the stuff is rotten
