Now you have made me realize that music is one of the things that my life is missing.

I was at a local coffee shop the other day and a gospel song came on over the
speakers in the coffee shop. It was uplifting, loud and inspiring. I immediately
smiled. Just that one song made my day. Later on I wondered about the other patrons
in the coffee house. What did they think I was smiling about, a chapter in the book
I was reading ? A thought I was having to myself in my head ? No, it was just
that one song. Amazing :)

PS: I like the old song "Shine on your Shoes" sung by Mel Torme ( but also sang
by Fred Astaire in one of his old movies.) This would be a great song
to listen to first thing in the morning. You can look up the song online
to listen to it. It is an old song, but a good one. :)

I realized not long ago, most of the music I was listening to was actually bringing me down. Since then I have made it a point not to listen to so much of that. It's amazing how the simplest of things can affect us without us even realizing!! I will look that song up and check it out :) thanks always looking to add more :) that's a good idea also, gospel songs!! I can't imagine there are many that wouldn't make you feel good!! :)

Hi Iwbb, I have always enjoyed listening to music. Some lifts me up, others bring me way down depending on the reason for the attachment I have to a song. Some songs, just from the words and power/emoton of it, will bring me to tears, due to sadness or even joy, like with gospel music. The Walking on Sunshine and Keep your Head Up are good choices. I have a bunch of songs I can suggest for you that I have found uplifting or positive in ways - What a Feeling (Flashdance), I Feel Good (James Brown), The Way It Is (Bruce Hornsby), Beautiful Day (U2), Can You Feel It (Jackson 5), Greatest Love of All (Whitney Houston - good choice for us depression/anxiety sufferers), Don't Worry Be Happy (see prev note), Jump (Pointer Sisters), and 2 of my all-time favourites - modern - Hallelujah (Alexandra Burke version - wow), classic - What a Wonderful World (Louis Armstrong). When you finish your compilation I would like to know what you ended up with. I could always use more uplifting and positivity. Thank you for this post.

I just came across another good one. The music is okay but the lyrics are amazing, esp for us sufferers! It is by Jason Mraz, called Living in the Moment. This is most of it - "If this life is one act, why do we lay all these traps? We put them right in our path, when we just wanna be free? I will not waste my days, making up all kinds of ways to worry about some things that will not happen to me. So I just let go of what I know I don't know and I know I'll only do this by Living in the Moment, living our life, easy and breezy with peace in my mind, with peace in my heart, peace in my soul. Wherever I'm going, I'm already home, living in the moment. I'm letting myself off the hook for things I've done. I let my past go past and now I'm having more fun. I'm letting go of the thoughts that do not make me strong and I believe this way can be the same for everyone. I can't walk through life facing backwards. I have tried. I tried more than once to just make sure and I was denied the future I'd been searching for, but I spun around and searched no more by Living in the Moment"

Hello

I like all kinds of music. Certain times in my life there was certain music. In my early 20's all I listened to was folk (peter paul and Mary, Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Melanie, Bob Dylan. Some of these ppl are still performing. Anyway....too depressing. In my 30's I got into country music (boy they have a lot of award shows on tv). Then I got into classical (not opera) I did like Cat Stevens by the way. He's in a monastery now. But I will tell you that the latter form of music has really helped me. Now, I know it doesn't sound like it would be good but if you pick the right Christian singers WOW! It doesn't matter what you believe in, give it a try.

Love, Peace ;)
