A story for you...
The sheepdog is anxiety, fear, panic, sadness, etc. We're the sheep. Sometimes when we go astray, the sheepdog will come after us, nipping at us and scaring us. We try to get away, but the sheepdog redirects us back in the direction of the herd and the Shepherd. When we spot the Shepherd, we run towards him for safety and in order to get away from that sheepdog.
However, once we're back close we realize that the sheepdog was simply leading us back to safety, to our Shepherd. We can then look at the sheepdog as our friend because it's only purpose is to lead us to the Shepherd and keep us in communion with Him.

(This story came from my counselor who was referring to a book by George MacDonald.)

Don't run away from those feelings. Let them lead you back to safety. Let them be there, knowing there's no danger; only an opportunity to get closer to your Maker. It's OK; we're safe. Trust in Truth!

That is a wonderful way to think of anxiety. I had never heard it quite described that way. It is definitely a lot easier and comforting to think about anxiety/panic that way.

Thanks for sharing this with us.

God bless,

KDLady:
I enjoyed that story also.
Thank you.
I'd been having a bit of anxiety lately.
This gives me another way to look at it.

You know what? I have often thought of anxiety that way. I have felt like it is my body's way of reminding me I'm off track spiritually. Generally when I get far away from Him, the feelings come back. And when I start doing what I know I should, I feel better. I have not heard of that book though; I need to look for it. Thanks for sharing.
