Thank you so very much, Madisonmarie. These are words of wisdom for sure. I have had hypochondria for years and I focus on every little ache and pain, even if I've had them before. I am always at the doctor's office for something or other. I am going to put your words to good use, use the relaxation tape and other distractions to trick my mind. Your mind is the worst thing, it can imagine so much and actually cause physical symptoms to get worse. Thanks again.

Yes, I do worry about my health. I have worries about cancer since it runs in my family. My mother had Breast Cancer but she died of a heart attack due to a blood clot from the radiation therapy. I had a blood clot too from a broken ankle that went into my lungs and almost died from it. So I worry tremendously about when is my time, did I cheat death? Is he coming for me now?

I worry alot about dieing, what is wrong with me, the pain is so bad sometimes, I get shakey legs, is my heart rhythm off, what caused that, now what is that? etc etc.

I have a question? Does anyone here have Frequent Bad Dreams? I am of Cherokee blood and we are taught to try to decipher the dream. Try to figure out what it means. Well, most of mine bad dreams are so frightening I can't calm down enough to figure it out, they don't usually make any sense. I hate to go to bed because some of these dreams wake me up in them middle of the night shaking and terrified and I can't even remember why. I am usually so aftaid to go to bed because of these bad dreams. Sometimes I wake up in a panic without having bad dreams. Just wake up terrified. Can't understand why. Can anyone help here?

I am the same way. I had very mild asthma since 2000. Two years ago next month, I read a story about another asthmatic who died from an asthma attack. This was 5 years since I was diagnosed and never knew you could die from the disease . I was a fearful, anxious wreck. QUOTE]

I have had Asthma most of my life. Granted is not as bad as some but I life with it every day. Sometimes I have a hard time breathing and right away I get those worries again. I am 60 years of age and have not had to serious a problem with my asthma. But I too know that some people die from it. One of my brother's friends has it bad and ends up in the hospital sometimes from it. It can be very bad. I have had some bad asthma attacks where I thought I could never get my breathing back to normal. But I did. I just calmed myself down and took slow shallow breaths.

Madison Marie,

Great advice!!!

Codi Wolf,

I commend you on how your handle the asthma. You deal well with asthma's built-in element: anxiety.
But I did. I just calmed myself down and took slow shallow breaths.
WAY TO GO!!! :)

Codi,
I can't say for sure what you should do about your dreams, but this comes to mind: try and look forward to having your dreams and tell yourself you will face what is behind the scarry part of the dream and then tell yourself the dream has no power over you, rather you have power over the dream. have a pencil and paper next to your bed so you can write down the dream. Once you have it written down you can try and figure out what it means. I may be all wrong in this advice and it is NOT based on anything other than a gut feeling. I do wish you well and I just prayed that God would also be with you in your dreams to comfort and strengthen you.

Marie great advice! Sometimes it is hard at the time to follow but those are great points and I will try to use them when I feel wierd symptoms. I too worry about and seem to have many wierd symptoms that always turn out to be nothing major. But your mind can make them worse and last longer when you dwell on them. I have a problem with the dwelling on things . Even when I try not to my mind seems to float back to those questioning , wierd or neg. thoughts. Any advice from any one on how not to dwell on wierd feelings/symptoms and thoughts. Besides trying to distract yourself? Good luck to everyone dealing with physical symptoms!!!

Hey everyone!
I read all of your replies to this topic.

I am a 43 year old woman. I go thru all the anxiety about health. I scare the heck out of myself just thinking there is something wrong with me. I am so afraid of dying thatI have lost knowing how to really live.

But thanks it helps to know I am not the only one who deals with this kind of stuff.
And I will use some of your advice.

Good Afternoon All;

Thanks for the incouraging thoughts people. They are greatly appreciated.

Hey Thritysomething - Here is a thought about distracting yourself. I hunt for anything funny on TV. Commedy shows, Disney Family stuff fit for children and adults. Laughter is the best medicine so find something very funny to watch or do. That way you don't really have to distract youself, the commedy does the work for you giving you time to reorganized you calm thinking process. It works for me. I get so depressed watching the garbage on TV so I hunt for funny things, movies, commedy shows, disney tv, or even discovery channel (how'd they make that, etc.) Any thing that is not gloomy. No news, no world war stuff, CSI is out, ER is out, anything that could make me see it happen in me. I like stuff to open my mind, I garden in the summer with veggies and stuff, Walk in the woods, work on my crafts for my craft store in the winter, also knit and crochette. Heck I even buy coloring books to crayon on myself. Simple ones like priates, wizards, Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh etc. Just make sure you get out into the sun at least 15 minutes every day. :)

Hi Waterdrinker, I empathize with you there. I always think the doctors are missing what is really wrong with me. I feel they are to stupid to find the real problem. I have to talk myself down more times then I really want to thinking that there something wrong and I know they won't find it. It never occurs to me that the real reason they don't find anything is because it is in my mind and not really there. Granted the anxiety can really give you pain, Been there done that. I can make myself sick and throw up almost anytime I want. HUH? You say? How do you do that. The mind is very strong and I have in the past been able to control my blood pressure by raising it or lowering it anytime I just stood still, closed my eys and thought about it.

I have a friend who gave me some advice one time that works for me a lot when I use it. She said when you get worked up and can't take any more find a dark quiet place. Close you eyes and see a small white tornado. See it or make it come down over you from your head to to your toes. Make the tornado take away the pain and fear. Then make the tornado go back up to over your head. IT should be a bit greay by then. Then make it disapear. You should be calmer by that point. Here is another thing I use. See yourself on the water, very rough seas. Make the water calm down as if you were in a tub of warm water and wanted the water to smooth down. That way you are calming yourself down as you calm down the water.

Both these techniques need to be down in a quite dark room until you can make it work any time. Be advised they might not work the first time, but keep trying. I guess I should take my own advice and try these techniques again too. Good luck all.
